While most people would say Josh Groban's version is the definite one (And Josh is one of my favourite male vocalists) I opt for Sissel's version with the extra verse.

I have to say, personally, I think this is a better song for men, and I'm partial to Ronan Tynan's version myself, but I think Celtic Woman had a particularly moving version on A New Journey, I think it would have been smashing with some bagpipes.

I didn't consider Celtic Women or Westlife because I believe the song is better as a solo.

Hello Jon and everybody! I voted for Becky Taylor, although her singing career seems to be in suspended animation at the moment. Richard

Hmmm, Where's Aled Jones on the list of options? He did a version too! I know - I saw him perform it live just last week . I am undetermined about the best version at this stage so I have not cast a vote. Gerrit

Becky it is for me as well
The poor girl is a walking study in career mishandling. None of her CD's were ever promoted enough to even have a chance.

Becky it is for me as well The poor girl is a walking study in career mishandling. None of her CD's were ever promoted enough to even have a chance. Jon Becky's only 18 so it's a little premature to be assessing how far along her career should be, isn't it? Sure, against the model of CC's meteoric (and some would say 'flukish') rise it does seem lagging, but who really knows how to handle a vocal prodigy in a genre that rarely produces major stars -- and so soon after CC's big splash. Then there was the huge misfortune of her first CD being released in the States on September 11th, 2001, wiping out any chance of it getting a foothold. Add to that the fact that "You Raise Me Up" would have been her breakthrough hit except that Groban just managed to sneak his version in first and with his massive publicity machine working overtime he virtually owned the song. What could anyone have done differently to get Becky's career going? The cards were stacked against her. Fortunately, time is still very much on her side. She's such a brilliant singer that eventually she'll take her rightful place alongside the greats. That much is certain.

Steve,
Im not writing her off. Having said this, I dont think she is ever going to get as far as she should as long as she remains with EMI. I dont think they signed her for the right reasons. I think they signed her a little too soon (even six months might have made a difference), and she has been starved for promotion almost right from the beginning. For whatever reason, I dont think EMI ever really believed in her.
