Many thanks for sharing, Toronado ! The singer is Lena Park, a very famous Korean (yet, she sings a lot in Japanese!). It's the opening theme "Inori, You Raise Me Up", for a Japanese anime (Romeo&Juliet).

Absolutely, 100% Becky Taylor!!! Her voice is unbelievably good. I don't know about you, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard a 14/15 year old girl sing that well in my life! The depth, maturity and emotion to her voice are just incredible for an artist of any age. Although I am a huge fan of Russell, Sissel and Josh & in my opinion they are some of the best crossover artists ever, and their vocal abilities are astounding and each of them bring something special to this song!

I've listened to a new version of "You raise me up", sung by Dutch Crossover artist PETRA BERGER. This song is on her new cd HERE AND NOW, and in the booklet there is a comment of Rolf Lovland (songwriter)he qualified it as best Female sung version ever. Greetings JOYCE.

Yes, its an old thread but I have just seen it now.
There has been alot more singers that have covered it since this thread started, but I think the original version by Brian Kennedy is still the best version.

I wish this song would suffer a swift death.
These are the versions I have:
Becky Jane Taylor Russell Watson Josh Groban Thomas Spencer-Wortley David Garrett Aled Jones Andrea Ross Celtic Woman Il Divo (I think they translated it into Italian) Paul Potts Sissel Secret Garden Michael Ball Fron Male Voice Choir Classic FM Songs Without Words
I liked the song the first time I heard it - by Russell Watson, then I steadily began hating it, as you do when you hear far too many versions of an okay song.
I'll probably pick Russell's version, for obvious reasons if I had to choose.

I have a few of those versions on my iPod. I also have The Salvation Army's version on there. Daniel O'Donnell has recorded it too - I certainly don't have that one!

Nicola, as most of Il Divo's songs, they sing You Raise Me Up in Spanish, not italian (at least the version I have heard). Although... they quite changed the sense of the song, maybe not as radically as with Hallelujah or other songs, but enough to keep me from calling that a "translation".
Michal
Edit: Oh, and haven't seen most of the versions mentioned here, but... Celtic Woman, both in their first album and in New Journey really make it sound damn great.
