What music would you recommend to Hayley solely for her listening pleasure? No need to list your personal favourites, just music you think she really, really, really might like. I'll go first:
1. Cowboy Junkies -- "Trinity Sessions" (album) 2. Judy Collins -- "Whales and Nightingales" (album) 3. Olivia Newton-John -- "Lord Help Us To Survive" (song) 4. Stevie Nicks -- "Leather and Lace" (song} 5. Iris Dement -- "Our Town" (song)
That's all from me. Now it's your turn! (I can't wait to see what Scoobedoo, Dori, Toronado, Graemek, Milewalker, Stephany, Roger, fusilier23, Steve H, hayley Mc, Martin, Caite, petertong, Mark, Comet, Grant, Dave, Socalboy, Postscript, Richard, Mariannek, Belinda, and Oksana and all the others would recommend to Hayley!)

Oh gosh. That's a tough one.
1. Dana Winner - "Leaving on a Jetplane" This is just a beautiful version of the song, and it's a sentiment I would certainly think Hayley could relate to.
2. Mary Fahl - "Going Home" I'm not sure the origins of this song, but it's a good, soulful, kind of haunting, American folk song that reminds me somewhat of the songs Hayley has put on Treasure, and obviously enjoys. Mary has also stated that she's drawn a lot of influence from Joni Mitchell, who I believe Hayley also enjoys.
3. Loreena McKennitt - "Bonny Portmore" I think it's quite possible she already knows this one, but if she didn't I would definitely point it out to her. I think it's a beautiful, traditional song (one I would love to see Hayley record in fact). I think she'd like it.
The next two are sort of departures.
4. Queen - Who Wants To Live Forever This is an incredibly powerful and emotional song in my opinion. It also happens to be quite well sung, and I think Hayley could relate to some of the elements of the song (There's no time for us, etc. etc.).
5. Angra - Wuthering Heights This is definitely different from the version Hayley has recorded, but I think it is quite well done, and I think she might be interested to see how others have interpreted Kate Bush's work. She has also said she loves the book, so this song might even resonate with her a bit more because of it!
Of course now having all that said, I have no idea how well known those artists are in general, Hayley might already know them all! I gave it my best shot though.

Ouch - this is a tough one, Steve. I still have to think about it but she would probably appreciate Lara Fabian's music - she's from Belgium and is very well known in France.
Her first album is called "Pure" (I already saw that somewhere else...!) and was a smashing success in France back in 1997. She has a strong voice and lovely songs.
Otherwise, I don't know if she enjoys listening to the piano; but Joe Hisashi is an amazing composer and I'm sure she would love his CDs (he did the soundtracks for "Princess Mononoke", "Spirited Away" and also "My Neighbor Totoro"). His work is FABULOUS.

Hi everyone, Personally I would like her to listen to regina spector and Vittorio Grigolo, ( whose voice she loves); I think she would quite happily listen to Keith Urban as well. And of course she would find Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon amazing singers. Mind you, they are all my favorites, but why wouldn't she enjoy them as well?!! Love, Marianne

No problem, Richard. But it appears to me Hayley takes to such recommendations well, like when her mum introduced her to the music of Kate Bush and when her manager introduced her to Joni Mitchell's music. In addition to covering two songs she become a huge fan of both singers. So, while she is perfectly capable of making her own choices there's no reason to think she isn't open to suggestion, and that is merely what this exercise is intended to be.

I think she would quite happily listen to Keith Urban as well. Firstly congratulations to Nicole and Keith on their upcoming little baby Urban! Next.... Yes, Hayley's musical tastes change. I couldn't possibly recommend anything to Hayley, apart from enjoy whatever she's listening to at the moment. Funny that Steve left me out.....

Not so fast there. Read THIS! I had my suspicions, but for once I was hoping the papers would get something right for a change! OK then, I would recommend Dragonforce to Hayley. You never know she might like them!

Wall in Washington - Iris DeMent ( I was Playing Infamous Angel when I found this thread)... Now you're talkin'! I would add to my list Iris DeMent's song "Sweet Is the Melody" (which was famously covered by Aselin Debison). Hayley would like Iris a lot, I'm sure.

This music seems to be going back a bit doesn't it?
Vanessa Carlton, The Corrs, John Legend, Alica Keys, Faith Evans, Nelly Futardo, most classical artists..... some of the music Hayley likes.
I think she went through a pop phase, an R/n/B phase, I assume she has always had a Celtic phase. How about something similar to the above?

...I think she went through a pop phase, an R/n/B phase, I assume she has always had a Celtic phase. How about something similar to the above? One of the unspoken reasons behind these recommendations is the desire to expand another's musical horizon. Hayley has likely been exposed to most, if not all of the one's you named, with the possible exception of my favourite metal band Dragonforce. Expanding Hayley's musical horizon at this stage is much more of a challenge than when she was 15 and 16, still discovering Kate and Joni. Chances are she's surveyed the current scene as thoroughly as we can imagine and has already developed a highly eclectic set of preferences overall. But the goal is to introduce her to music she probably wouldn't stumble upon unless it were deliberately placed in her path. The possibilities for some incredibly rich offerings are out there.

I'm going to have to check some of these out myself! I've never even heard of them.
Music seems to be her first love, so I'm betting she tried listening to hundreds of artists.
I'm sure I remember Richard telling us once that he meet Hayley once with stacks of CD's in her possession! Am I right Richard?

I'm going to have to check some of these out myself! I've never even heard of them. With that in mind I'm launching a companion thread to this one entitled: "Music HWI members might enjoy?", and unlike this thread, participation is strictly voluntary.
