Yesterday I checked Napster for new downloads and got a surprise: All Angels LP was available for download!
So guess what I did next? Yes, that’s right, I downloaded it!
You guys have to wait another two weeks.
At first they seemed a bit bland to me. No X-factor; something which Triniti had in abundance.
But its not fair to compare them, because their musical styles differ.
Laura caught my eyes(and ears) on the Songbird video. Listening to that track on the album and you can hear difference between Charlotte and Laura as the main leads. Charlotte does sound a bit weak compared to Laura(but she still has a nice voice). This is not common however, as the harmonies work well. Barcarolle and Ave Verum Corpus are beautiful and highlights of the album, but the haunting Angus Dei is outstanding.
There are some surprises: Windmills Of Your Mind is a song I would usually find boring. However this version is sung beautifully. I’m not sure who the lead is, but if its Charlotte, she sounds superior on that track than Songbird. I have a feeling its her voice on the cover of Robbie’s 'Angels' (I’m glad they chose that and not RudeBox i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif) Her voice suit’s the song with the harmonized chorus making it even more catchy.
Pokarekare ana is not a particular fave of mine. Even Hayley’s voice can’t save that for me, so its not surprising I skip that song; the introduction is beautiful, but then its back to familiar territory.
Ave Maria isn’t the version of the song Hayley recently released as digital exclusive. The version All Angels perform is more suited to harmonizing but I found it boring.
There is a voice that stands out, you can hear it. Is it Laura? Does she sing the opening notes to Silent Night? That is a wonderful and hunting version of the carol.
Its not a perfect album, but many highlights. All Angels will get better as a group. But Laura should think about recording a solo album, because if that stand-out voice is hers, its time to get excited.
