Hi Grant, Just a quick note to say, WELL DONE on all the photographs you have posted at Shrewsbury, it sounds like you had a great time. Thanks again Steve H Thanks Steve! We had a difficult time because of where they put Hayley. quite dark and both Gordon and I had problems with the autofocus on our cameras. I was very happy with the outdoor opportunities though, they don't come along that often do they? Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant, Very Lovely pics, & yes she sang some very nice numbers , even encored, but I'd still like to know how many people were there watching & listening. I looked up Shrewsbury Abbey on the web & it's quite a large building & I guess it would hold 400-500 max. Because churches were traditionally cross shaped when viewed from above, the long thin proportions limited the seating arrangements & therefore the numbers. (as in 1,2,3,4....) Graeme Hi Graeme Yes, the Abbey is quite small, but a fair bit bigger than Telford St. Georges, which I know accomodates 400. My guess would be around the 600 mark but I'll try to find out for you. Glad you liked the pictures and reports. More pictures in a few minutes. Best wishes Grant

Thanks Joe!
You were indeed correct! I must have logged off at about the time Photobuckets came back on line - typical!!
Well, here are the last 4 pics. from Shrewsbury from me. Thanks for all your kind comments. Hayley is a joy to photograph, despite the auto focus playing up! and I'm already looking forward to Beverley in a couple of weeks. That's it folks! I'm photographing dump trucks in a quarry tomorrow, but I guess you'd rather wait for more Hayley pics!
Love Grant

Hi Grant, Just a comment on autofocus. If you know this already just ignore it. It needs basically sharp changes in colour to home in on. Edges really. The darker it gets the more confused it gets. It gets very confused with gentle silky looking water patterns. With manual focus you don't get any of that...if it looks clear to you, it is OK. Also if the aperture is small you'll get good depth of field ie you will rarely get focus error then. I've often taken people using manual focus & my finger hovering on the focus ring...usually quite OK. Also, I know flash is handy & fast but it's going to give you redeye to fix afterwards which is sometimes problematic. But it does not guarantee that the autofocus has gone "on target" Graeme...as I say, ignore all above if I'm telling you what you already know.

Grant, definitely NO Dump trucks !!! Why are you taking pictures of them anyway?? Or am I missing a joke here ?? ( No sense of humour, I'm told ). Your last and all Hayley photos are superb, Grant. Thank you so much! Love, Marianne

Hi George,
Thanks for your report, glad you and Karsten enjoyed the concert. It was good for you to get Sonny as an encore, just a shame you saw little of Hayley before the concert. Still I am sure your time with her at the end of the concert was special as usual.
Best Wishes,
Gordon
PS I know Karsten finds the English experience of queueing very amusing,I told him it was a cultural thing.

Hello again, like Grant I want to split my remarks and here's the first part: Part I - August 3: After my arrival in Stansted on August 1st with an Irish low-cost-carrier (of course no surreptitious advertising here) I had a short stop in Cambridge quarreling a little with driving on the wrong side and especially sorting the gears of the rented car with the left hand. And all these roundabouts... The weather was beautiful these days - in fact I needed my rain coat just after my arrival here in Frankfurt-Hahn, in the UK it was completely useless. My cheap B&B for the night was located on my way to Shrewsbury in Northamptonshire and on August 2nd I arrived in this old Tudor town. As Grant already mentioned the town lays high enough on the banks of the Severn that the flooding went away without severe damages. My B&B was only a ten minutes walk away from the abbey and the abbey itself is only a ten minutes walk from the city centre, so it was fine to go on tour through the city. On the day of the first concert I had my walk through the city in the morning and on the way back to the B&B I took a look at the abbey - it was 11 am and the sound crew was working. So I decided to go to the abbey at noon to wait there for Grant, Gordon and last but not least, Hayley. At 1 pm there was Grant in the middle of the church... and since that moment he had to suffer from my German-coloured English. I don't want to retell Grant's remarks, so here's the first picture: To be continued... Karsten
