I'm gobsmacked!!! I have just listened to a completely different rendition of Hayley's duet having downloaded Dave's digital recording. The quality is far superior to both the live and broadcast versions and what I found so pleasing was that Hayley's voice really does excel which I thought particularly from the live performance was just a little subdued and dominated by Jonathan. But quite the contrary, the voice was strong and clear which of course we all know it to be. Martin Yes, this is exactly as I experienced it. I was starting to regret some of my criticisms, made on the basis of the broadcast, after I played Dave's HWI version. But they are probably still valid really. I would really like to know how you did that Dave. It is the same video, but the quality is just so much better than what was broadcast. Sue, who watched it at work, agreed, and said she felt she couldn't hear Hayley properly. She has just listened to Dave's version on my laptop with headphones, and agrees there is no comparison. Martin (the other one) Hi Other One oops, Martin! The short answer is, i don't know! My recording got to you as follows: 1) Complete show recorded on Sky+ from ITV1 on Sky Digital (audio is I think at 192 kbps). Sky+ records what you see - the actual mpeg2 digital stream as broadcast. 2) Copied at single speed from Sky+ to my DVD recorder's Hard Drive, using an analogue RGB connection. 3) Dubbed digitally (at fast speed) from the DVD recorder's hard drive to a DVD+R. 4) DVD copied digitally onto my PC (all 4GB+ of it!) 5) Hayley-Jon extracted to lossless compression and edited 6) Titles added 7) Recompressed to XVID (audio still at 192 kbps) and .wmv format (audio 64 kbps). Two-pass variable bitrate encoding. 8) Uploaded and links posted. That's it! Perhaps your TV transmission was of lower quality or in mono? Was it Freeview digital, Virgin digital or terrestrial analogue? I have found that since the onset of digitised TV, the audio can vary from platform to platform so I may have just been lucky that on this occasion, the ITV/Sky combination produced a good quality feed (which is not always the case!). But that's just guesswork, sorry! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave & everyone, thanks Dave the recording was brilliant, clean no freezing ( which happens when you download at my end of the line ) a very nice presentation. I haven't yet seen or heard of it being broadcast here in NZ ( the whole show) so I am not sure if the viewers here will have the opportunity of seeing Hayley's part or not. As far as I am aware we have only seen Hayley's arrival on the motorcade, which is a shame really. Once again Thanks Dave, cheers, Rodders

Hi all! I think everybody's pretty much said what I want to say, but I'll say it anyway -- that was STUNNING! Hayley looked and sounded amazing... I really loved the choreography, the lighting, the set, Hayley's dress, and, of course, her voice. It all came together perfectly, and I think it must have been one of the most memorable performances of the evening. I've watched it a dozen times already, and I just can't get over how perfect Hayley and Jonathan sound together, and how well they tell the story. I agree with Stephany's post about Hayley looking much more comfortable in this role than in WSS with Vittorio. I think this song just naturally fits her... a real pleasure to watch. Isn't this the second Romeo and Juliet song Hayley has recorded? The first one was 'Kissing You' ... this makes me want to hear that one all the more! Thank you Dave for the GORGEOUS video. Oksy

Thanks a million, Dave. This duet is absolutely fabulous. Though I was more impressed by Anna than by Andrea on this particular song. She's incredible! Cheers- Stephany

Hello everybody! I've always thought that the visual aspects of a live performance are just as important as the sound, and the video of 'Un Giorno Per Noi' proves beyond doubt that Hayley thinks so too. Also, at 21, she's now old enough to increase the passion and drama in her performances, and she did it with great style at the Royal Albert Hall. I'm sure we've witnessed the beginning of the next stage in Hayley's amazing career. Best Wishes, Richard

Thanks a million, Dave. This duet is absolutely fabulous. Though I was more impressed by Anna than by Andrea on this particular song. She's incredible! I agree. It's a pity ALW missed this last performance as I don't know if you had noticed but the Lord left early (presumably to get the last bus home ). Martin

I think everyone at Buxton last month evidenced the increased passion in Hayley's live performance which seems to have been confirmed by the people who saw her in the Irish concerts. Now thanks to Dave we can all see it in this breathtaking performance from the RAH - in front, it should be mentioned, of many influential movers. I'm happy that I've seen the first five years of Hayley's (international) career; I can't wait to see what the next five years hold. And beyond that... Kind regards Colin

Hi Dave,
I watched the ITV broadcast of the Classical Brits on terrestrial analogue TV. I think Sue, who watched it at work, probably did the same.

Those expressions have nothing to do with music. The event is supposed to be about music and that is what we should be concentrating on....... and I think Jon did the same for Josh Groban who did not impress me at all on this occ asion(wow!). He sounded like a second rate pop singer, and I know, from the CD of his I own, that he can do much better than that. Martin Hi Martin, First, see the article posted by Dave also on this forum....the people who ran this event made a very specific and concerted attempt to make it visual - it was after all a televised event and must compete in that market to succeed. It may have been true that 100 years ago it really was all about this music. Maybe even 50 years ago. But not today, if for no other reason than that virtually all mediums in which we are exposed to singers are visual. This was a performance of a song, but the key word is performance - and it succeeded admirably. Even on this site it has never been all about the music Martin. If it were, why would there be thousands of pictures of Hayley? Second, I think that several million people in America would disagree with you about Josh Groban. This is the direction he has taken his recent music, and he has been very successful in doing so. He hasnt lost his crossver classification here, his fanbase has been willing to go wherever he has led them, and he has substantively increased his sales volume over the course of time - during which time the sales of most artists have been falling. Jon

Hi Ross
Thanks for posting the pictures of Hayley - pity they didn't have one of her actually arriving!
The description of "a carriage attached to a motorcycle" is interesting. Don't they have Harley trikes in New Zealand?
Best wishes Grant
