Hi everyone, The photos that I've been waiting for are of another performance that Hayley took part in whilst she was in Nova Scotia. Hayley performed at the Glencoe Mills Square Dance, on 7 October; one day after her riveting performance at the Celtic Colours Int'l Festival in Cape Breton. Natalie MacMaster appears also. I hope to learn more details about this performance and what Hayley actually sang, but I'll let the pictures tell the story. Notice the Cape Breton tartan! Photo credit of the above photos is given to Island View Creations www.islandviewcreations.com ; thanks to Kimberley of the Celtic Colours forum for her assistance.
Please note that I was given these photo exclusively for use on HWI and this forum. Enjoy Joe

Hello Joe! Thanks for sharing those fabulous photographs. I thought I'd read something about this dance, and I've found a short thread on Hayley's official forum HERE. Best Wishes, Richard

Hi all,
I've just read Hayley's newsletter for November 2006 and, no, I didn't help in its creation!
Hayley only sang one song at the dance hall . Kimberley said it was "a traditional New Zealand song".
Glad you enjoyed the photos!
Cheers, Joe

Thanks Joe. That is a charming piece of video. People just having fun in a homely atmosphere, Hayley is just relaxed and enjoying other people enjoying themselves. I hope somebody can save it for future reference. If I had logged on HWI a few minutes later I would probably have missed it as it was post 30 in the "Most recent" and I don't always have the time to go back looking for posts outside the "30". comet

I believe that footage from this square dance will be included on the Natalie MacMaster & friends DVD.

That's not the CBI tartan anymore. It's closer to black watch now. How do I know? When I was in CB this summer (seeing signs for Celtic Colours & a road named MacMaster road!), I got a little tartan bag with a poem to describe why each colour was on it. This is it from memory- Black for the wealth of our coalmines, Grey for our Cape Breton steel, Green for our rolling mountains, Our valleys and our fields, Gold for our golden sunset, To show us God's hand has lingered, To bless our Cape Breton shore.
Can't you see Hayley singing it to the tune of "All things Bright & Beautiful?"

Hi Hayleylynnfan, The colors may refer to several items: 1. The flag of Cape Breton Island. (There is a flag for the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. ) 2. Also, the black watch tartan you described may be the tartan of Nova Scotia If you have free minute, check out my forum for The Cottars linked below, I have some examples of Cape Breton flags, badges, etc. Best wishes, Joe

I hate to dissagree with you again- Anyway, when I was in CB, there was a different flag, not unllike the flag of Nova Scotia, except different logo & its color- green. That MIGHT be the tartan I got- but it plainly said in script on the paper- the Cape Brenton (their typo, not mine) Tartan. Or maybe the typo ws on Tartan? ? No clue, but there was a typo made by them. Whose them? The people at the store or the manufactures. Ok- done being a lawyer for now! HayleyLynFan

Hi again, HayleyLynnFan, It's wonderful that you visited just Cape Breton! I would LOVE to be up there in October for the Celtic Colours Festival. This may be the green flag you mentioned...the Cape Breton Regional Municipality flag... Back on topic, I can't believe that a whole year has gone by since this square dance ! BTW...I really like the look of your forum! Lots of info on CW too. Thanks for keeping the music playing! Best wishes, Joe

Thanks! You can join the forum if you want. No, that's not the flag. I'll have to find it somewhere and post a pic of it. Cape Breton is so cool- I saw signs for Celtic Colours, even though it was only early August!
