Hello again Dave, Roger and Emmett! I don't think Sunday's concert will be affected by yesterday's events in London. Wormwood Scrubs is several miles from Central London, and the Central Line of the Underground was not involved in the explosions, although the whole system was suspended for most of yesterday. I'm going to assume that the concert at Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre is going ahead. Only TWO days to go! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSee you there, Richard

OMG! Am I the first one home again?
The fact that Hayley only sang two songs tonight cannot count as a disappointment because we knew that before we went. The songs were 'Pokarekare Ana' and 'Amazing Grace', both sung a capella. Considering the concert took place in a barn(!), the acoustics were very good. Do I really need to say that her performance was absolutely gorgeous? Have you ever known me say otherwise?!
Before it began, several members of the HWI team were strategically positioned so that she couldn't arrive at the venue without seeing us. Basically we were standing in the way as usual! That trick worked well but, unfortunately, she couldn't linger for long because she had to do a sound check.
Her appearance was approximately midway through the first half and Steve had told us that she would be leaving more or less as soon as she came off stage. Although the rest of the family were not present, Sophie was sitting right in front of us. She slipped out quietly in between numbers and we realised that Hayley would therefore have left long before the interval. With somewhat heavy heart, I endured the next few songs in the knowledge that we would not see her again.
Wrong!
We went outside during the interval and there was Steve, Hayley and Sophie. I reached Steve first and expressed my surprise to see them because we thought they had left. "We were waiting for you guys", he said. And they were. They must have been waiting for about twenty minutes - just for us! We chatted with them all and took several photos which you will all see in due course until we eventually had to say goodbye. But, as always, we parted as friends.
Most of us didn't stay for the second half as we had lengthy journeys to make but just those two songs and two meetings with Hayley made the trip so worthwhile.
What a night.
Roger

Hello everybody! I thoroughly enjoyed "Horses in Harmony" at the Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre last night, because it was something completely different. I was the first to arrive, followed by Emmett, Roger and Paul. The four of us formed a welcoming party for Hayley when she arrived with her sister Sophie, her manager Steve and his daughter Hope. There was time for a quick chat before Hayley went for her sound check. A few minutes later Hayley was back outside mingling with the crowds and making lots of new friends. We took our seats in the Riding Hall, which is basically a large barn, and Dave joined us just before the concert started. There were four opera singers and a large choir, accompanied by a piano. They sang familiar opera arias and choruses, and during some of the songs young riders paraded round the arena on ponies. The woman in charge of the centre, Sister Mary Joy, also appeared riding her horse Sioux. Hayley appeared as a guest singer in the middle of the first half. She sang "Pokarekare Ana" and "Amazing Grace", both a capella, and she had the audience spellbound as always. It was a warm evening following a scorching hot day, so we went outside during the interval to find Hayley waiting for us, and Chris also found us. We all chatted with Hayley again, and had our photos taken with her. Hopefully these will appear on the Forum in due course. I also chatted with Sophie, who I saw duetting with Hayley at the London Palladium last year. Eventually Hayley had to leave, but she gave us all a big smile and a wave as she walked through the gate. I don't know if it was something I said, because the others all left after the interval, while I stayed for the second half. One of the opera singers sang an aria from Carmen on horseback, which was certainly different and highly entertaining. The concert finished just after 9:30 and I went home by bus, because there wasn't a horse going my way! Although Hayley only sang two songs, it was a truly magical evening. I've now seen and met Hayley six times, and I could never get tired of her. Thank you Hayley for another unforgettable experience. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes, Richard

Hello again Lothar! Thank you for your very kind comments. Roger took a very nice photo of me and Hayley at the Pony Centre, and he emailed it to me. I don't know if Roger has sent it to you, so I've emailed it to you anyway. When you give it to Hayley, be prepared to duck! On second thoughts, just give her the picture with my love, and please don't forget to mention Roger as well, because he knows my address! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSee you soon, Richard

Hello again Lothar! Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre is a riding school for children in West London with special needs, i.e. physically or mentally handicapped, run by Sister Mary Joy, who was riding her horse Sioux during Sunday's concert. It does not have its own web site, but there are some snippets of information on Google. During the concert they said that Hayley heard about the event and offered to appear. Best Wishes from London, and I hope you enjoy the World Games on Thursday. Richard

I asked Hayley how she came to hear about the event at the pony centre. Apparently Steve's daughter, Hope, regularly helps out there and mentioned it. Hayley, as is so typical of her kind nature, immediately offered to sing a couple of songs if they would like her too. Of course, they were delighted.
Incidentally, when I phoned up to reserve my ticket, the lady at the pony centre said they felt very honoured that Hayley would be there.

Hello again Roger! So it was almost a family affair! Reading the programme for the event, it says that Sunday's concert was the fifth "Horses in Harmony" event, so Hayley might well appear at the Pony Centre again. If so, let's hope we get more advance warning so we can announce it on the HWI main site. Perhaps Steve and Hope can keep us posted. Bye for now, Richard
