Short report about Hayley’s concert in Athens:
On Tuesday October, 4th I went to Athens and arrived at 2 p.m. .
In the afternoon I was going to Acropolis, to have a first look at this famous building. Also there was the ticket office and I had to receive my ticket for Wednesday.
Then I was waiting for Hayley. My hope was to meet her before rehearsal. But she was not there. Musicians of the orchestra made a rehearsal, but not the singers. So my opinion was, maybe she will go to Athens not before Wednesday.
Next day, Wednesday, I went to the theatre at Acropolis at 5. p.m. to wait for Hayley again. My opinion was this is early enough, because the beginning of the concert was at 8.30 p.m. During this time I met 2 other Hayley and Mario fans from U. K. – Denise and George from Glenfield (Leicester). So we were 3 persons who were waiting for Hayley, but she was nowhere to see. The friends form U.K told me a possibility: Maybe Hayley is very late, because at this day was a strike of pilots from France. So maybe she couldn’t arrive to the rehearsal on Wednesday or she is ill and unable to sing this day. At 8.30 p.m. the concert was beginning but nobody told anything about Hayley and why she was absent.
Before the concert was beginning, I did the decision to buy a ticket for next day (Thursday) also, because we hoped Hayley will be on Thursday at the concert, maybe.
Thursday the same procedure: At 4.30 p.m. I was at the theatre, waiting for Hayley, but she was nowhere. So I asked some people who deal with the organization of the concert, and some other people from a TV-company. Nobody knew what was happen with Hayley. Also the musicians of the Russian Orchestra, who I asked (in Russian language), were unable to say if Hayley will be on stage or not. But the rumours went around Hayley is ill and at home. So we attend the second concert of Mario Frangoulis. He said some words that Hayley can not participate at this concert because she is ill.
The concert of Mario was wonderful. He has a fantastic voice. A lot of his songs are very fascinating. So I was very enthusiastic about his concert. Also at the concert was Deborah Myers from U.K. Her voice was very good also. The orchestra was of the “New Russian Opera”, some soloists and the choir too.
Some examples of Marios the songs:
- “Misic of the night” (A. L. Webber)
- “The light in the piazza” (A. Guettel)
- “We kiss in the shadow” (R. Rodgers / O. ammerstein)
- “The impossible dream” (M. Leight / J. Darion)
- “La forza del destino” (G. Verdi)
- “Va pensiero” (G. Verdi)
- “Ch’ella mi creda” (G. Puccini)
- “E lucevan le stele” (G. Puccini)
- “Ah la paternamano” (G. Verdi)
- “Questa o quella” (G. Verdi)
- “Bella figlia dell’amore” (G. Verdi)
- “Caro nome” (G. Verdi)
- “La donna e moble” (G. Verdi)
- “Buongiorno principessa” (N. Piovani)
- “Vincero perdero” (St. Wood)
- “Here’s to the heroes” (T. Chua)
- “Come that may” (D. Baerwald)
Finally I can say: It was a wonderful concert, beautiful voices, very nice scenery – it was a pity only that Hayley was not there.
