Hayley Westenra, New Zealand's brightest young singing star and UNICEF New Zealand's National Ambassador, will join other dignitaries to celeb*ate Sir Peter Ustinov's life at a tribute service at the United Nations General Assembly building in New York City this Monday 7th June at 5:30pm. Hayley has been included in this high-profile event, at which over 100 countries will be represented, through the efforts of the UNICEF NZ office. Hayley will also have the opportunity to meet Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the UN, at a reception following the memorial.
The 30-minute service, entitled "Peter the Great: A Celeb*ation of the Life of Sir Peter Ustinov", will feature readings and testimonials from Kofi Annan, Carol Bellamy (UNICEF Executive Director), actress Mia Farrow and singer Harry Belafonte – both UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, Sir Emyr Jones Parry, British Ambassador to the UN and Lebohang K. Moleko, Mosotho Ambassador to the UN, as well as musical performances from Hayley Westenra, Judy Collins and Elisabeth Woo.
Hayley will perform the traditional Maori song "Pokarekare Ana". At only 17 years old, Hayley is the youngest person to ever be selected for the prestigious role of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, while Sir Peter Ustinov was UNICEF's oldest and longest-serving Ambassador.
