Hayley Westenra Concert
Christchurch Town Hall at 8.pm
Finally it was the day of the concert i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif
Mum and i arrived at the Town Hall at 7.30pm we had travelled to town by bus .There was already alot of people around when we arrived.
We went to the ticketek counter and picked up our tickets.
I saw people ,i had not seen for years we spotted Sophie and Jill and Georgie and her mum ,Georgie is a friend of Hayleys and also was in the same musical as my daughter Kim " Westend to Broadway"
The people in the foyer were mainly middle aged ,it was great to see some kids as well though.
I approached Jill and gave her the Spare songbirds cd that i had, i remembered back in August Jill had said she did not have it so i thought she should have it.I could see she was busy talking to relatives i think ,so i just handed it to her , We then went to see what was forsale at the sales table there were posters ,The Biography, all Hayley's albums and the DVD,Plus the programmes,
I spotted a flyer advertising Fiona's concert .
Mum and i went to find where our seats were, we went up the stairs to the Gallery.
Our seats were for the front row of the gallery on the aisle it was a great view.
Before long the concert started At first glance the stage seemed very sparce it was set up like the Church tour with candles.A large candlearbra each side of the stage about inline with the musicians, There was 3 small candles either side of the speakers that were on the floor at the front of the stage ,it was very different than last time big screens NZ scenes etc lots of maori singers and dancers.
But once Hayley started singing who needed all that.
Hayley emerged she seemed to be surrounded by a glow ,Hayley was wearing a Aqua dress it was knee length,it was hard to see exactly what colour her dresses were the lighting made it very hard to say for sure .
Hayley began with Prayer then Ava Maria off the Odyssey album.Hayley explained that she had been given the sheet music of this song originally by her Nana Ireland and therefore dedicated the song to her.
Then Hayley sung Mists of Islay and said about 7 years ago i sang this song on a show called Mc Donalds Young Entertainers, wow that makes me feel old she said,As soon as i heard that song i thought of the talent quest at Northland where i had last seen Hayley sing it as she danced around the stage in her pale blue outfit.
Hayley introduced the Musicians,Ian,Fiona,.Simon and Sarah.
Hayley next sang Bridal Ballad and explained the story behind it. and then sang Hine Hine,I was thinking of the little kiwi on his way to bed in the satilite dish.
That was the first half of the show finished.
In the interval it was announced there was to be no flash photography as it distracts the artist.
Then they announced that Hayley would be signing things after the show, everyone then clapped.
The second half was started by Fiona she played and danced around the stage leaving her shoes behind her .Her performance was wonderful and she received great applause for her troubles i can't remember what order she played the songs one was Gypsy Lamont will add the others when i can remember them.
Everyone clapped madly when Fiona finished, Hayley came back on, and she encouraged everyone to clap again for Fiona. That was a nice gesture.
Hayley was wearing a full length dress this time which was a purple colour.
She sang Mummers Dance another of my favourites It's obvious she really enjoy's singing that sort of song and maybe in years to come there will be a folk type of Album.,Then there was Never Saw Blue and Amazing Grace,
Hayley seems to enjoy herself when she sings this song the word i had written in my notes(scribbled in the dark) was Excellent .
Then she sang In Trutina and May it be
Hayley then talked about Ghana, she then said sorry i'm getting a bit carried away,it's a subject real dear to my heart. She then mentioned the donation envelopes in the foyer,i think i have scanned one before.
Then it was time for the last song she said this song makes me feel uplifted, and that is how she was feeling at the moment.
The song of course was I Say Grace.
Everyone clapped stamped their feet and yelled until Hayley and the musicians came back on the stage for an encore she said i hope you don't mind, this is a different version of Ava Maria.
Everyone clapped and she was gone, the realisation Hayley would be gone again Hopefully for not so long this time,But there is Hope by whats written in the programme.
we all started down the stairs and alot of people headed for the sales tables.
Mum and i joined the line,We spotted Ian and Fiona Ian came over and talked to me,Haha he said he had liked the Fiona site and the page i made for him but he said get rid of those photo's so i said give me some other ones,And he said there are none. i was standing in the line .talking to people in front of me and Ross beside me they had all visited HWI and Ross mentioned the Hornby footage and how he had got videos off the net i said i had taken that footage i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif, And i told him he should join the forum ,which he has.
Haha i must have sounded like the Hayley Westenra Encyclopedia to people around me.
Mum was ahead of me and got her copy of Odyssey signed,I said to Hayley this is my mum and i think she was going to give her a hug but for her shadow behind her she didn't .Mum showed me what Hayley had written on the Taxi ride home that was so nice,
She wrote Dear Barbara you have a lovely daughter love Hayley that was so nice and mum thought it was great. When it was my turn Hayley asked how i'd enjoyed London,It was Fantastic but i was not there long enough.
I had a chat with and Ian and Fiona and got my programme signed by them also. And chatted to sophie and Isaac about sports.
The signing line was the disapointing bit for me after such a great evening,it was the look on Hayley's face and not, the not getting pictures that upset me.
My rating for the evening AAAAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++.
