Check out the cast and you will find our Fiona Pears appears as Fiona Pears. I don't remember Afghanistan being on her tour schedule.

Music is being written and composed by singer/songwriter Paul Garbutt and the film will include a unique appearance by the legendary New Zealand violinist Fiona Pears.

Hello everyone

Couldn't play this trailer at first - kept telling me I had to load Adobe Flash Player 9 which I did tonight. After seeing it, thought there's something familiar about this clip.

Now, here's a thing. Look at the Scania crash tender in the clip then look at the following photo which I took at Shoreham airfield in May last year.



Yes! They are one and the same. This makes me think that the 'church' shots could have been taken in the college chapel which is visible from the airfield.

Can't wait for this movie

Definitely not. According to this Press Release, Hayley will be singing in a memorial service at the beginning of the film.

Hayley Westenra will also star in the UK/Australian Fact Not Fiction Films feature film ‘Shadows from the Sky’ due to start principle photography in 2009. Hayley Westenra will be singing at a memorial service as part of the powerful opening sequences of the feature ‘Shadows from the Sky’ which is an adaptation of the book ‘Toxic Airlines’ by Tristan Loraine the director of Fact Not Fiction Films. Her performance of the song ‘Ave Maria’ is included in the film's teaser trailer released in October 2008 at www.shadowsfromthesky.com.

So, this is it? Will it only be released in the UK? That doesn't sound very "major" to me, and it doesn't look like it would be very interesting to Americans. I was hoping the movie would be one Americans would see, so she would become more popular here. This is disappointing to me. Well, I can still hope they'll ask Hayley to sing for the future Hobbit movies. That would be good.

Well, you've probably noticed by now but the voice over in 'Shadows of the Sky' is done by John-Rhys Davies (Gimli in the Lord of the Rings trilogy). Who knows, maybe he's a fan of Hayley and will inform Mr Tel Doro about it (wishful thinking, I know!).

My impression of the movie from its trailer is Oliver Stone meets Michael Moore on a shoestring budget.

I didn't know that, actually. I didn't remember his real name.

Well, Howard Shore is going to do the soundtrack. Hasn't he met Hayley, and didn't she sing the songs from the movies at some concert he did? I think he'd be nuts not to choose her. It is, after all, the composer who chooses the singers, right? James Horner chose Hayley.
Peter Jackson's from New Zealand, so he most likely is familiar with Hayley, and will want her to do it, too.

Former Pilot is Flying High With Directorial Debut

A FORMER airline pilot who gave up his career in the skies to become a film director is about to have his first movie screened in Northern Ireland, where he grew up.

Psychological thriller 31 North 62 East -- starring John Rhys- Davies (dwarf Gimli in Lord Of The Rings) and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi in the Star Trek series) -- will open at the Moviehouse and Omniplex chains on September 18.

Tristan Loraine (47), with a mother from the Republic and a father from Bristol, was a boarder at Armagh Royal and learned to fly with Woodgate Aviation at Aldergrove Airport.

"My late mum Molly was an actress and my late father Denis was a film scriptwriter," he said.

"He wanted me to go into films, but I was determined to be a pilot and I flew with British Airways for 20 years until my health suffered from toxic fumes. That's when I switched careers and took up film-making."

Among his early productions from his Fact Not Fiction Film Company was a documentary on Oz singer Hayley Westenra touring around Northern Ireland.

And now comes 31 North 62 East -- subtitled Too Close To The Truth -- which is being premiered in London on September 16 and which stars Rhys-Davies as a dodgy British Prime Minister.

"The theme is that politics is a dirty business," explained Loraine whose cast also includes Craig Fairbrass, Mimi Ferrer, Omar Mostafa, Aureelie Bargeme and Ian Lavender.

It was Tristan's impressive personality that persuaded Rhys- Davies, Sirtis and Emmerdale actress Heather Peace to come on board, according to Susan Michaelis who heads up the distribution company DFT Enterprises.

"And he pulled off a master troke by getting Sue Gibson of the British Society of Cinematographers to come in as director of photography," she added. 31 North 62 East is the story of how the Prime Minister reveals the position of an elite SAS unit in Afghanistan to ensure that an Pounds 80 billion UK arms deal goes through -- guaranteeing his re-election.

But one of the SAS soldiers is found alive, prompting an investigation.

"Naturally as a debut this is a low budget production which was shot in West Sussex and on location in Jordan," added Gibson.

"But it suffers nothing for that and is going to impress the critics.

"Tristan and his brother Leo, who remembered all the things their writer father taught them, wrote the original script and 31 North 62 East made an impression at the Cannes Film Festival in May."

Loraine's next production, in which Northern Ireland Screen is interested, will be Pounds 7m feature film Shadows From The Sky, financed privately and based on a book he has written called Toxic Airlines: What The Airlines Don't Tell You In the Pre-Flight Safety Briefing!

His claim in the book, published by DFT Enterprises, is that he is telling the story of contaminated air on aircraft which he describes as "the asbestos of the aviation industry".

The author has already produced the TV documentary Welcome Aboard Toxic Airlines dealing with the same controversial subject.

Tristan is hoping to start shooting Shadows From The Sky on location in Australia and Northern Ireland next year and is talking to Ewan McGregor about joining the cast.
