Hello everybody! I voted for 'Memory' because this song has a very special meaning to me. It was one of my late grandmother's favourite song and I'm sure she would have loved Hayley's version! Stephany

Hello Northern Lights My favourite also has to be "I Dreamed A Dream" with "Amazing Grace" and "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" sharing joint second place. Really though, I love every track on the album and ..... Oh dear! I'm going to have to go and play it again now! Best wishes Grant

Hello everybody! I voted for 'Memory' because this song has a very special meaning to me. It was one of my late grandmother's favourite song and I'm sure she would have loved Hayley's version! Stephany Hi Stephany, "Memory" was indeed one of the three songs which were available for download - and therefore one of the reasons I bought the CD. Having said this, they "cheated" on the arrangement, raising the middle portion of the song -'burnt out ends of smokey days....' an octive over the original. I am quite aware that most casual listeners wouldnt even notice this - but it told me that they arranged the song around a limitation in her voice......to be fair, Webber wrote the song with Sarah Brightman's voice in mind - and the single most notable thing about her is a preternatural range..... It may seem unfair to compare the voice of a 13 year old to Sarah - yet they did select this song which begs the comparison. Jon

Hello Jon! I think it's perfectly reasonable to rearrange a song to suit a young singer's vocal range. Personally I would like Hayley to rerecord 'Memory' one day, and perhaps some of the other Andrew Lloyd Webber songs too. Best Wishes, Richard

Hi Richard, I think it is reasonable as well - in fact similar things are done with adult singers all the time. Also, with the health of a young singers voice in mind, I might even suggest that it should be done at times. I was merely stating the reason why I didnt personally consider the song outstanding - but still good enough to be one of the reasons I bought the record in the first place Jon Edit - I would absolutely love it were Hayley to revisit Webber at some point. My understanding is that he wouldnt mind either

Was it me, or did some of the other songs seemed.....rushed? It is interesting that you ask that question, Jon. I have never noticed it but the question was asked before (a very long time ago) so it just might be the case. Graham, the fact that we are on the 'Hayley Westenra' album sub-board might be a slight clue. Roger Hi Roger, I wonder if I was a part of that discussion at some level - the topic has certainly come up before, but frankly I dont remember where . However, it gets back to one of those quibbles that I seem to notice that most casual listerners would not. One instance is "Pie Jesu' - and it is instructive to compare this with CC's version - Hayley is more solidly on pitch throughout - but her phrasing seems to oddly speed up and slow down. this suggests to me that she was being coached around simply not quite having enough breath to complete those phrases done more slowly. Jon

Hi Jon and folks. I thought Elaine Paige was the first to sing Memory in the early eighties and at that time I don't think Webber and Brightman were even an item never mind Hot Gossip Och I voted for Bright Eyes just to stir it a little............ comet

An amazing talent. Hopefully, Hayley will do more of his scores. Right now I'm putting my little MP3 player on and going out for a run. The exercise is so much more enjoyable when you have Hayley singing along with you. Regards, Gene

Hi Roger, Graham, the fact that we are on the 'Hayley Westenra' album sub-board might be a slight clue. Roger I came across the quote above recently while I was going through the Hayley Westenra CD thread. It had worried me at the time but I was still a relatively 'newbie' then. However now I realise it was a 'clue' I had not seen. You would see it as ...... ...if you don't use the last 30 facility do you always search back the number to your last visit then Hi Graham, No, I almost always use the blue icons which denote a new post has been made to any particular board or thread: . That way, I can guarantee seeing every post in sequence rather than jumping from one topic to another. Roger But if you use the last 30 posts, as I did , you do not see it at all ! Hence my confusion at the time Graham

'Somewhere'.
I can't really explain why, but it stands out for me on this album.
Which musical is this song from?
