In 2012 Rosanne Cash published the song Land of Dreams.www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgo9xuIE8YM
One year later in 2013 Helene Fischer from Germany released the song Atemlos durch die Nacht www.youtube.com/watch?v=haECT-SerHkAs you can hear the melody of both songs is very similar. The composers (Rosanne Cash/USA and Kristina Bach/Germany) were inspired by an Irish folk song Does anybody know the title of this folk song? Hoping that there are here some users from Ireland who can help me. Many thanks for the support. Bernd

Hello Bernd,
I did not recognize the song either. The second video is not viewable to me due to the uploader making it unavailable in the USA.
Best wishes, Joe.

Hi comet, thanks for looking for the song. "Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears" has some similarities but since it´s more quiet I am not sure if this is the song the composers were inspired from.

there is an old expression: where there's a hit, there's a writ.
Some of you may also have noticed that Brendan Graham wrote this one:
Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears
Author: Brendan Graham
On the first day of January Eighteen Ninety-two They Opened Ellis Island And they let the people through. And the first to cross the threshold Of the Isle of hope and tears Was Annie Moore from Ireland Who was all of fifteen years.
CHORUS Isle of hope, Isle of tears, Isle of freedom, Isle of fears, But it's not the Isle I left behind... That Isle of hunger, Isle of pain, Isle you'll never see again But the Isle of home Is always on your mind.
In her little bag she carried All her past and history And her dreams for the future In the land of liberty. And courage is the passport When your old world disappears âCause there's no future in the past When you're fifteen years.
CHORUS
When they closed down Ellis Island In Nineteen Forty-three Seventeen million people Had come there for sanctuary. And in springtime when I came here And stepped onto its piers, I thought of how it must have been When you're only fifteen years.
CHORUS

I found the below article and it looks like that "Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears" is not the song I am looking for. In a comment it is said: I remember hearing a very similar melody sung in a pub in the 1960's. I liked it then but never knew the name of the song. chicagoschlager.blogspot.com/2014/08/plagiarism-was-helene-fischers-atemlos.htmlMaybe we will never know the name of the Irish Folk Song. Bernd

Gotta say, the Rosanne Cash song Land of Dreams is really catchy, can't get it outa my head . Johnny Cash's daughter, she would have been immersed in music from a very young age. If I hear a similar tune I will try and get back to this thread. The memory needs time to work on things like this.
