Often mentioned in other threads and discussions, I think Olivia deserves a thread of her own.

Here is the technical description for Olivia's voice : Voice type: Lyric Coloratura Soprano Highest note: G6-A6 Lowest note: D3 Vocal range: 3.5 octaves. Nothing in the above description tells you it has a magical intimate breathy quality, with beautiful purring overtones and undertones, she can sing in the quietest and gentlest way about the important things in life. (We will just ignore the eighties for the time being ) Grace and Gratitude is a 2006 album by Olivia, thirty six years into her career and producing exceptional vocal performances. I see you can play the whole album on YouTube. Play the whole album if you can, I know it is quite difficult to get that amount of time and peace to yourself but this is worth the effort. I gather Olivia is back in Australia to raise funds for the victims of the fires, good on her and Bless her.

oh the little pleasures in life, like a new album even if it is an old one. In my recent foray into Olivia Newton-John on Discogs I discovered I had completely missed an album in 1975 called Clearly Love, I had gotten the albums before and after it as they were released at the time, maybe it was not released here in Ireland, I was going to chase down a vinyl copy of it when I found it had been re-released in 1986 in Japan as a "Two on One" disc MCA-5882 with the other album being the brilliant Come on Over album with Jolene on it. I think / speculate that it is likely to be the version of Jolene that Hayley had been familiar with rather than the Dolly Parton version. I have really enjoyed the getting to know you phase of an (new) album I had never heard before, some lovely cover songs on it, such a pleasure.
Olivia released a whole load of wonderful albums between 1971 and 1977, before Grease and Xanadu and then she became a superstar, which is a double edged sword, you can become to popular, to famous, 3 singles on the chart in 1978 with a combined total of 56 weeks on the charts was enough for most people, ears had reached saturation, then the eighties came.

Thanks Comet for the reminders of the fondly remembered Olivia Neutron-Bomb To me though, the finale of Grease was not her finest hour - I much preferred her in the earlier parts of the film. And I don't think my ears would have ever reached saturation

I think the word I was looking for was huskiness, that breathy sound is referring to the backing vocals on this one and many others from around this time.

I see by my earlier post in this thread that I have this album since about last February. It has been only out of my cd player to move it to another cd player in a different room. I can't recommend this album highly enough in these awful times, it is warm and comforting like a good friend, When you're weary, feeling small.... Olivia seems to be a very wise woman in a very troubled world. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkQ7ITBQRhDyG3Mai9xm9w-ildhQPls9DThe album is Olivia Newton-John Grace and Gratitude the link above is to a YouTube playlist of the whole album.

Probably the greatest female singer of our lifetimes has passed away today. I was listening to Grace and Gratitude again on Saturday evening, one of the best albums I ever had the pleasure of listening to. Olivia Newton John - God bless you.

Hello Paul, Thank you for your tribute. I know her best from the iconic “Grease”, which has neither left our hearts nor our TV screens for many years.

May Olivia Newton-John now rejoice in Christ. She gave the world so much with her voice and her joie de vivre. There will never be another like her. Rest now, Olivia-
