Hi everyone I was just looking on You-Tube and I found a fantastic bit of film posted quite recently. It could well be that this has already been posted on the forum or main HWI site, if it has, my apologies and please feel free to lock this thread. I have no idea where this film was shot but the announcer sounds austrailian !. She looks so angelic See what you think [ftp]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vr6ajtA5Otg[/ftp] Best wishes Mark

Hi Mark, Unless I am very much mistaken, I think that is from the Russell Watson concert in Auckland in February 2002. That would make Hayley 14 at the time. There is a DVD of the concert but pie Jesu doesn;t appear on it. I can't remember if we already have it or not. If not, it was a good find. Roger Trying to work out if we should move it to the Media board!

Hi Folks. Some of the comments on the You Tube item are a bit nasty. I am regularly surprised at how vindictive some of these comments are. There are some types of music I may not like, but I would not bother going to the site or You Tube to write negative comments about it. I am also amazed at the number of obvious fans names that are not members here, some of them do seem to be quite dedicated and defensive of Hayley. There are some very positive comments as well. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifcomet

I remember seeing this video on Hayley's MSN group HERE. The clip was supplied by Belinda and digitised by Gerrit. As Roger said, Hayley was performing 'Pie Jesus' on February 6, 2002 in Auckland (concert with Russell Watson). I think the 'Media' board is indeed more appropriate so I'll just move it there if it's OK with everyone Thank you for posting the video, Mark. I would love to hear Hayley singing it again just to see the difference - now that her voice has matured so much! Stephany

Hi Stephany, Welcome back from me too. And Mark: The Presenter is a Kiwi. Same venue as "Romanza". i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifAll the old hands will have these clips I would imagine. (including me) It would be a good idea to pass them around among ourselves so they don't get lost altogether !!! Thanks Stephany for locating that one. I absolutely love her happy little smile as she sings.... Gorgeous The NZ accent is very similar to Aussie with the exception of the way Sydney for example is pronounced. We pronounce it "SIDNEE" kiwis say "SUDNEE" with a short U Any extensions on this??? Graeme

Graeme, I have the same date for 4 clips ( feb. 6, '02) Pie Jesu, Romanza(partial), Dreamed a Dream, and a duet -Pokarekare Ana- with Russell Watson, the last 2 are from Russell's DVD "LIVE", I'm sure the venue and orchestra are the same for all 4 clips, but the first 2 clips look "different " ( not just the dress), Did Hayley open the concert for Russell that evening?, or a different date??,Anyone remember???.....TimJ

I'm not convinced that this is the Russell Watson concert, although it is certainly Auckland Domain.
When Hayley appeared with Russell, it was he that introduced Hayley, why would he not for Pie Jesu?
Also, it is a different dress AND Hayley looks different. Perhaps a tiny bit older? Also the presenter says Hayley is "opening the proceedings tonight".
Best wishes Grant

I love to hear Hayley shorten her vowels. It's like she's saying to us "Listen to me, I'm still a Kiwi!" There's a moment in her "Live In New Zealand" video, during "Amazing Grace", where she sings 'prize' for 'praise'. I look out for that every time I watch the video. Don't know why, but I just love it. Best wishes Grant

Hi everyone~~~ I watched this concert first on the TV. And it's a full full version of the concert~~~ Included "Pie Jesu" and the other song that Hayley sang~~~ Moreover, there was a part that Hayley introduce the Maori ceremony to welcome Russell~~~This part also didn't appear on the DVD. Very funny, but it's a pity I couldn't record it at that time...................

Hi Everyone, Yes that is an amazing performance from Hayley An article about it on HWI Mainsite, HEREFree concert strikes just the right note _________________________________________ By AINSLEY THOMSON New Zealand News February 7th, 2002 Fine weather and free music capped the day for 45,000 at the Domain. Picture / Glenn Jeffrey They spilled from the steps of the Auckland Museum down the expanse of lawn to the giant stage - 45,000 people who had crowded into the Auckland Domain for a free concert last night. And it was not just any concert. It boasted English tenor Russell Watson, who has become an opera sensation in the past three years, young New Zealand star Hayley Westenra, Faye Tozer from English pop group Steps, the Auckland Philharmonia and various local choirs. The moment 14-year-old Westenra emerged on to the stage and sang the first notes of Pie Jesu, it was clear this was going to be a concert to remember. Organiser Ian Magan said such an event would not usually be free. But the concert, which was being filmed for a television special to be broadcast in Britain, the United States, New Zealand and Australia, was organised in only seven weeks - not enough time to build an audience for ticket sales. "It's free so we could have a big audience for the filming." The crowd started building around 1 pm, most people bringing picnics and deck chairs so they could enjoy the concert in comfort on a warm evening. For some there was an internal debate about whether last night's Black Caps' game or the concert took precedent. Paul and Sheryn Cressey from Half Moon Bay solved the dilemma by bringing along their transistor radio. When they heard one of the highlights of the concert, a duet of Pokarekare Ana sung by Watson and Westenra, they would have been pleased they chose the concert. Most who attended would agree that it was a remarkable evening. Where the video at HWI mainsite is HERESimon had mistakenly put it was Hayley performing in Christchurch. Belinda

Hi everyone Firstly, thanks Graeme for putting me straight on the difference between Australian and N Z accents. When I really listen to it, I can tell the difference. Thanks also Belinda for the background info on the event. Gosh, I wish I had known about Hayley back then Best wishes Mark
