Can someone please tell me which edition of "Odyssey" has the no drums version of "Never Saw Blue"? While either version is absolutely superb, I prefer the one without the drums. It seems all the versions on you tube are "drumless", however my Canadian edition of the CD is not.

All releases of Odyssey have the no-drums version except for the North American releases, and the 2006 UK special edition which completely omits the track. So, any other version should do the trick! I've put a link below to a copy on Ebay.ca that would get you what you want. Click Here!-Taylor

That's amazing, I don't think I have ever heard the version with drums on it......... and I have a lot of versions of Odyssey.
I tried YouTube but they do all seem to be drumless.
Anyone know where I can hear the one with drums ?

Hello Comet, if you have a windows based computer, I can send it to your windows media player. I just need your e mail. Oops, my apologies. I just realized that infringes copyright law! Sorry I suggested it.

Thanks skipg If you could tell me the disc number usually 475? and the length in time of the track I can probably Track it down. Some of the two disc sets have a different number on the case insert, so the number on the disc is best. During that time 2006 to 2009 many of us here were daily scavengers on Ebay, buying up every promo and different edition of each of Hayley's albums, I am sure I must have it somewhere, many of the items are stil in their postal packets complete with Ebay documentation, some only checked for physical condition after their journey around the world. I don't know how many editions I have, I never took them all out at the same time, but if I have a number to look for it would be easier. To quote Gene Raskin in a song by Mary Hopkin: Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la, Those were the days, oh yes those were the days Then the busy years went rushing by us We lost our starry notions on the way If by chance I'd see you in the tavern We'd smile at one another and we'd say....

Hello Comet. The disc number on the inner circle of the CD is DIDX-174228. The number on the front label is B0005440-02. the track running time is 4:38. I hope this allows you to track it down. By the way, Mary Hopkin is one of my all-time favourite singers!

Thanks skipg, Dizzy looking through editions of Odyssey today,I seem to have at least sixteen versions including promos. I have a cd copy of it, B0005440-02 DH .. I got 4th Sept 2006. It says Universal Classics Group a division of UMG recordings 825 Eighth Avenue New York NY 10019 on the back case insert. I'm listening to it now, the bass drum is just like a heartbeat on the foot pedal, I like it but unless it was pointed out to me I would hardly have noticed it. Do you think the drums were added to the original recording just for the US edition. I have a player that can play 2 discs simultaneously I will give it a listen on that with the UK version.
You will find that many of us here on this forum have very similar tastes in music going back decades, I was very fond of Anne Murray and just loved Gordon Lightfoot, especially Sunday Concert not to mention Leonard Cohen..

I have the US version, released in 2005, and there are no drums in my favorite song on this album. Unless they're so subtle that I've never noticed them? I thought it was all just piano, though. Also, "all releases of Odyssey" do not have this song. For one, the Special UK edition, which I have, most definitely doesn't have it. Not sure about the original UK anymore (I think I used to know LOL).

I played the 2 versions at the same time and flicked back and forth between them. The US edition B0005440-02 DH not only has drums, it also has a heafty bass guitar riff as well.
@ skipg, there are several 2 disc versions about some are with a bonus DVD and some are a 2cd set.
The 2 cd set (New Zealand edition Barcode: 0 028947 574668) usally comes under the No.4757466 and it contains disc 4757027 and a 6 track bonus disc 475 7467. Bridal Ballad, O mio babbino caro, Laudate Dominum, Wiegenlied, Ave Maria and The Mists of Islay..
The the ones with the DVD bonus disc have a pakage number 475 7506 and contain the standard 475 7027 audio disc Plus a DVD usualy with 3 tracks from this list: Both sides now, Amazing Grace, What you never know OR Down to the river.
Happy hunting.

I too have an Aus or NZ Odyssey (disc 4757027 made in Aus) as well as the UK original (4757157)and Special editions (4757683), but I can see the US and Canadian versions on Hayley's official Youtube and they appear to be the only ones with the drums mix. I could check any other version though, if asked (though Comet has probably got them all anyway ). skipg Good luck in your hunt! Dave

Well, now that I think of it, I suppose there are drums, but if you're going to call something "drums mix" I would imagine loud drums, not "normal" light pop drums! Clearly if I've never thought "my" version was the drums version, it's not overpowering in the least. Pardon me for being wrong and trying to correct others with misinformation, but I wouldn't have been so adamant about it if I'd ever noticed drums in the song. Sorry.

Hi Libby,
Comet described it as like a heartbeat, and that's all it is, mainly a regular slow beat on what sounds like a bass drum but could be synthesised, added to the original mix. I can't really hear that part of it on my computer screen built-in speaker, and wouldn't have known it was there at all unless I'd played it first on my big hifi speakers. One beat then two beats every second or more starting from 1m 45s onwards and lasting for maybe 90 seconds, leaving the ending drum-free. However, there is a 40 second segment from 2m 45s using a higher pitched drum set, which you should be able to hear OK.
There is definitely other added deep bass too in places, maybe bass guitar as Comet mentioned or some other deep string instrument. They wouldn't be able to use drums like that on the UK release as it might have disqualified the album from the classical chart of the time.
It's prominent on big speakers and probably headphones too, but the deep bass part is very hard to hear at all on tiny speakers, it doesn't add anything to the song for me though it's certainly 'different' on big speakers and some people will prefer it.

The only song I ever noticed as being different from one version to the other is What You Never Know on US album, which has guitar (I know there's a special name for this version as well). At first when I got Odyssey, I'd listen to every song, but after a while I'd skip that song. I got a little bored with it. But when I saw the short music video, and then eventually acquired the Special UK edition, I liked it much better. I love the slow, more ethereal version on that one. I have not listened to the US version of that song in YEARS. Partly because I never put that version on my mp3 player, only the UK version, and that's normally the way I listen to music now, even on my boombox, since I can hook my player to it. I rarely listen to a full album all at once, usually I just have it on shuffle. Except for Sarah Brightman, I listened to Harem on the first plane trip to London. Partly because both times I was keen on hearing "It's a Beautiful Day", because of the lyrics that say "... it's the last day for me, it's a beautiful day..". It was my last day in Seattle, then it was my last day in London.
