Loved the video and Hayley. The dancer, not so much. He looked ridiculous the whole time. I almost feel badly for Hayley having to put up with that while singing! How Hayley didn't burst out laughing is beyond me, at one point she glances to her right and looks as if she is about to laugh but turns to the left again and manages to keep a straight face and keep singing and considering the circumstances it is a wonderful singing performance. I have watched the video several times now with an A4 envelope covering the left hand side of the screen.. that works well. Years ago on this forum we mourned the passing of "Common Sense" this is a case of that lack of common sense. I wonder how many people did it take to approve that the addition of a dancer would "improve" the overall effect of that performance on such an auspicious occasion, did not one of them raise a hand and say NO.

I didn't notice Hayley doing that, mostly because the first time I couldn't see her, and the next time, I was just listening and not watching! Can you blame me? But in the past, I have definitely used your trick of using some sort of paper to cover distracting thins... Usually, it's some horrid flashing ad, though, not a terrible excuse for a dance performance. LOL

Still trying to get over my dismay with the unfortunate addition of this dancer. What should have been a high point of the show, and for Hayley, pretty much flattened by his distracting presence. One hates to be unkind, but definitely a what-were-they-thinking moment.

I agree with all the comments about the manic dancer! Even worse, the person taking the video panned across to include *only* the dancer at times, which makes it difficult to edit him out of the video. I'll have a go at doing that though, I just can't resist!
Cheers, Dave

If he was supposed to be a seagull, they might have put him up on a wire so he could fly above the stage. I won't expand my thinking! Richard

Hayley is listed as one of the artists on the DVD but I have not found a "track" list. I rather suspect Hayley's part will include the "dancer"
Hi Dave, It may just give you the material to make a decent video of Hayley's performance.

Yes indeed, I gave up on that facebook video, partly because the sound quality wasn't the best but mainly for the dancer ruining the visuals. Very disappointing not to see Hayley on the CD but I may get it for the DVD when I know a bit more about it. It's been a while since I've had any broadcast or similar material worth making videos from.
Cheers, Dave

Someone posted this today; it's 1 year ago since this concert! Here's the photo contained within the original post:

I was browsing in Tower Records Dublin yesterday and the familiar face of Dame Vera Lynn appeared in front of me on the cover of Vera Lynn 100 Special CD/DVD Edition, I remembered that Hayley had some part in that, flipped it over and saw Hayley was credited on the listing for the DVD so due to the serious lack of Hayley activity on any front lately I bought it, I put it on this afternoon, I had completely forgotten about the topless dancer that was on stage with Hayley while she sang Bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover. Yep there he was in all his glory.
Hayley comes out on stage for the encores and God save the Queen and an all star rendition of We'll meet again at the end. The poor unfortunate dancer had to re appear on stage for the encores in the same state of undress as he had on the performance. I really enjoyed the whole show, Bradley Walsh can sing too, glad I got it.
Sadly the Chelsea Pensioners and Hayley do not appear on the DVD or YouTube. Nor is there an index or leaflet about it.
The cd included is "brand new orchestral versions of her most iconic songs set to her (Vera's) original voice.
Tower also had on display: Treasure, River of Dreams, Odyssey and Paradiso.

Amazon Link to CD / DVDDecca / Universal 6714627 The print on the back of the case reads: Bonus DVD The Complete Vera Lynn 100th birthday tribute concert. and someone's typo Halyely Westenra. as we know from the above post and John's account of the concert it is in fact "incomplete". But it is still worth adding to your collection at the current price. Hayley is not featured on the cd but is on the DVD.
