Emma Vardy is preparing for her stint on Ability Idol.
EMMA Vardy is preparing to channel her inner pop star when she takes to the stage as one of six finalists in the Ability Idol concert later this month.
Supported by a $10,000 City of Melville grant, Ability Idol gives people living with disability the chance to live out their dreams and perform on stage.
Ms Vardy, who is blind, will perform the Hayley Westenra hit Across the Universe of Time.
“While trying to decide what to sing I was looking up different songs on YouTube and singing little bits to my parents for their opinion,” she said.
“I’m a massive Hayley Westenra fan and I found this song and my mum said that it sounded like the song for me.”
At just 21 Ms Vardy is already a seasoned performer, regularly singing with the Perth Undergraduate Choral Society.
The free Ability Idol concert is the brainchild of Activ employee Ben Cox who wanted to give people living with disability the chance to achieve something they did not think was possible.
“Many people living with disability love music and love performing but don’t get the chance to show their gifts and talents,” he said.
The open-air concert will be held at Kadidjiny Park on Saturday February 27 from 6pm.
