There is a mention of it on the HWI archive site here but it doesn't look like we ever had a video of it either published or unpublished. The whole of 2001 in fact is video-less, though there are a few from before 2001. But I have a few old 'Hayley' VHS tapes from pre-2004 tucked away and may not have viewed everything on all of them so when I get an hour or two spare, I'll see if anything from 2001 is in there, while I still have an old VHS player that I recently got working again! Give me a few days, and if someone can work out when "a week out from Mother's Day" - the suggested broadcast date - would have been in NZ back in 2001, that may help! Cheers, Dave Hi Dave when I click on the link above I get the archive site but when i try to view the clips it tells me "This site uses a plugin (********.wmv) that is unsupported. Is there anything that I can do?

Hi Jim, .wmv is a Windows Media Video. They were quite a common video format.
You may be having a problem with Mozilla or Chrome. If you are using one, try the other.
My Mozilla now crashes if I click on any video content, my Chrome fell apart completely a couple of weeks ago, but then again I'm still using a coal powered computer with Windows XP on it.

Hi everyone, thanks, I was excited about it too!
To answer some of the questions, in no particular order...
I'll have a look at the audio as it should be easy to spread it across both channels, I'd missed that because on VHS tape, only the left channel is used... the other channel was just a loud "hiss" on my player, which I mostly got rid of. I will post the new link before making it publicly searchable or Facebooking it.
There may have been short clips of this programme online before, but it's also possible that parts of it were re-used in later broadcasts on NZ TV or elsewhere, following the launch of Pure two years later. We have some of them online already.
Why was it never in the HWI archives? Probably because when I received the tape from Belinda several years after the recording, I had no working VHS player, I didn't know what was on it, and eventually I forgot about it!
Paradoxically, the online quality now will be better than 14 years ago because digital video recording and Internet speeds have improved so much. Back then, it would probably have been a series of half a dozen short clips at 256 kbps or less, maybe 320 x 240 at best and windows media.
The problems playing old HWI archive video clips in certain browsers like Firefox and Chrome are as Comet said due to windows media plugins being dropped by them, Internet Explorer will probably retain compatibility for the longest time, maybe for ever as it's Microsoft. We may start to see similar problems with Flash video eventually as there's a recent trend to move away away from that, too. Not sure what to do about that at the moment.
And yes, there is at least one more good quality Hayley interview on the tape, which will appear in due course!
Cheers, Dave

I love the whole thing. I particularly love the "Walking In The Air" clip of an eleven year old Hayley. The interview itself was sympathetic and I found the maturity she has as a 13/14 year old amazing. The only thing I don't like is the talking over Hayley's beautiful singing but I suppose you always get that. It is nice to see the birthday party. I wonder if Sophie Brinkers is among the guests.

Thank you Dave for sorting that out. It's great to see how confident Hayley was at such a young age. It is also clear to see what a lovely family all of the Westenra's are. There is something special about all of them. I'm off to watch again. Thanks, Tiger

Hi again folks! I've addressed the "left track only" issue mentioned by Richard, and have tried to reduce the VHS tape hiss and hum slightly more, without (I hope) affecting the overall audio quality. Someone should tell me if I have! So here's version 2... which will be the one made publicly searchable on Youtube *if* all is well (and I'd then update the title of course). VERSION 2Cheers, Dave

It is nice to see the birthday party. I wonder if Sophie Brinkers is among the guests. Hi Jim, I wondered that, too. I zeroed in on the tall girl with the shifting eyes, but wouldn't feel safe on betting that that one is Sophie. BobS Edit: Sophie wears her ring on her middle finger (see below). In the video at 11:31 (full screen) the girl mentioned above has her ring on her middle finger. Could be a coincidence of course, but perhaps more. igcdn-photos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfa1/t51.2885-15/10963907_372055632977076_1219712734_n.jpg

Well done Dave, the sound is much better now it's in both channels. I probably only noticed it because I listen through headphones. I can't be sure, but that could well be Sophie Brinkers immediately behind Isaac at Hayley's birthday party. Richard

Thank you so much Dave and Belinda! That was a nice treat! Version 2 is better as far as sound coming from both headphones. You're not the only one Richard! It was interesting seeing Hayley so young! And finally got an idea who her parents are like! Thanks again everyone!

Thanks Richard and frenchie, I will use version 2 then, make it publicly searchable, advise our Youtube subscribers and hide version 1. Done. If anyone doesn't like tape hiss (which doesn't seem to exist in these digital days!) they can turn down the treble control - assuming that *they* still exist! But Hayley doesn't then sound as clear. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTYWh0QN9fsCheers, Dave

Yes indeed, many thanks to Dave and Belinda! I've just posted the video on our Facebook page, and I've also modified the title of this thread and moved it to the Media board. Richard

I tweeted the link. Wonder what Hayley will think if she sees it....
Personally I think it is a delightful piece of history.
