This year's show features world-renowned pianist, Lang Lang. I barely know any of the others. I've heard of KC & the Sunshine Band, as my mom has mentioned them in the past. Other than that, I know none of them.

I did not watch the show, but through Youtube searching, I found he played Rhapsody in Blue. I wasn't able to find a quality video. I also discovered he was also on in 2010, playing something by Rachmoninoff. I also saw that Barry Manilow was on, too, a more recognizable artist, but not any more well-liked (by me). My mom's always liked him, though, but nobody else in the family cares for him.

Hello Libby! This video isn't too bad: That's an abridged version of 'Rhapsody In Blue'. The full work goes on and on and on... Here's Barry Manilow's performance with fireworks: Richard

I thought the sound was pretty poor, myself, though I guess I was going more by how the announcer sounded at the beginning. Plus the instrumental intro sounded a bit off to me, and bored me to tears, as usual. I've heard that tune used in figure skating many a time. Besides Barry Manilow, Gershwin is far from a favorite, as well. Classical piano in general is not my favorite. Actually, unless the piano is playing a really, really beautiful song, I just don't care for piano by itself. Too much tinkling and slamming of the keys, usually. The classical stuff is mostly dreary, and Gershwin is the dull, old-fashioned stuff. This piano playing sounds like the kind of music you hear in a really fancy restaurant... or, at least in the movies. Haha. I've never been to a really fancy restaurant.

I've never been to a really fancy restaurant. Hayley has! Rhapsody in Blue is one of my least favourite classical pieces, along with Ravel's Boléro and anything by Ludovico Einaudi! Richard

Hmm, well, I recognize some of those names from figure skating programs, and I can't say that the few I've heard excited me very much. I find Claire de Lune depressing for some reason, and other pieces by Debussy bored me even more.
However, at Stars on Ice, former US & world champion, Kimmie Miessner skated to "Experience" by your dreaded Einaudi, and I thought, while it was certainly repetitive, I found it really graceful and beautiful sounding. Sometime repetitive is good. Like Enya's repetitive rhythms in her music is actually very relaxing and soothing. However, that's the only music I've ever heard by him.
Richard, it's not really surprising that Hayley's been to fancy restaurants. LOL
