Congratulations Sweden on winning, Congratulations Austria / Vienna on the presentation of a magnificent stage production. I had hoped for a better result for Hungary's Entry Boogie Wars for nothing, maybe Eurovision just can't handle a serious and well written song..

Don't rate it to be honest. Pretty monotonous (in the true meaning of the world) and I though some of the singer's notes were a bit off pitch, so not a great performance. Not that I've heard any of the the others, I don't bother with Eurovision these days.

Glad I was able to provide some alternative entertainment for you Martin Yes, thank you John. And very good it was too. Singers that could actually sing, and sing well. It was well worth the drive. Martin D

I read that Australia competed in Eurovision this year...any reason why? Hi Joe, This year is the 60th. anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest and it has for many years been very popular with TV viewers in Australia, so as part of the anniverary celebrations, they were invited. That raised quite a bit of interest, too! ...very good it was too. Singers that could actually sing, and sing well. Martin D My favourite song of all-time is still Gigliola Cinquetti singing (yes singing - and nothing else!) Non Ho L'Et**SPAM? PLEASE REPORT - in 1964 when it won the (still to this day I believe) highest ever percentage of 1st. places - 8 out of the 15 available, or 53.3%. Of course it was easier to win back then, with fewer entrants, but even so, it was remarkable and one of the few when I could say instantly "this is the winner!" (Abba's Waterloo being the other that I recall). But the recording of her complete performance was lost by broadcasters - completely, only a 35 second fragment, mainly of the reprise, remaining. So 6 years ago, I spent months reconstructing it as best I could, inserting video clip repeats and stills, along with a surviving audio recording of her original performance. I'd have done a bit better these days but I believe that what I did then is still the best restoration we have, and it's on my personal Youtube channel if anyone's interested. 6,337 views on Saturday, its highest ever! I may have mentioned this before and my apologies for hi-jacking the 2015 thread! Cheers, Dave

Personally, I know Eurovision only as being the breakout of ABBA and Riverdance

Feel free to mention Gigliola anytime, one of the brightest lights of my teen years.
Still waiting for the CBS album Go to be re released on CD...
what a beautiful voice, that little velvet edge on some of the almost whispered lyrics..still makes my shoulders shiver, singing isn't always about power.

Personally, I know Eurovision only as being the breakout of ABBA and Riverdance Hello Joe! The Eurovision Song Contest has often been the kiss of death to established artists' careers. For example, what is Engelbert Humperdinck doing these days? At least Hansel and Gretel is still getting a few plays on Classic FM! Richard

I'm afraid the annual humiliation of UK singers at the hands of an anglophobic european audience has become too much to bear ! UK came 24th out of 27 I believe with 5 points ! Well done to Ireland for giving us a point ! Austria who won it last year didn't get a single point. Their song was awful but they probably didn't want the expense of hosting the event next year which is part of the problem. Another part of the problem is some our "eurosceptic" politicians who don't make our country popular in other parts of Europe but I'm not getting into that !
