Hi All The management team has decided to update the picture of Hayley overlooking Christchurch in the forum header with a more recent photo. Furthermore, we would like your suggestions and if we receive several then I will set up a quick poll to choose the most popular. There are no constraints on the photo as such but it would need to fit nicely into the current perspective and an upper body photo would be preferred. Don't worry if the photo needs minor editing/cropping as this can be done by Dave if chosen to replace the current photo. Please send in your photos by Saturday 14th March.I will kick off suggestions with the following recent photo: All the best. Martin

Since the current photo is from nearly 7 years ago, how far back can we go. I mean, probably not to 2009, but I mean, is 2014 or even 2013 okay? Are concert photos eligible? Can I "vote" for concert photos even if they aren't mine (well, none of them are)? I think your suggestion is very nice and would work pretty well. Thanks.

Yes, you can submit concert photos; even pics from 2013...after we compile a selection for you, you can vote on any pic

Oh, so we aren't choosing the possibilities, just voting on the ones you mods. choose? Probably best. I reconsidered the ideas I originally came up with, for now, as they'd have to be rotated to get her facing the right way.

I would favour a microphone in hand photo, without the microphone obscuring the face, from the Christchurch performance would be ideal as it reflects her current appearance.
can other screen caps be gotten from the recent Christchurch performance, with better lighting perhaps ?

they'd have to be rotated to get her facing the right way. Hi Libby, Rotation (like background removal) isn't a problem, I have photoshop... Paul, I can grab a high quality screen capture from any frame of the Cricket World Cup video, just play the video on our Youtube and say when it appears (minutes and seconds) and I'll do the rest. Or if members prefer to grab a screen capture themselves, they are welcome to post it in this thread. Cheers, Dave

The microphone isn't obscuring her face.

I am completely against a mirrored or flipped photo, nobody has a perfectly symmetrical face or identical eyes. It can just be downright weird if you are familiar with the subjects face.

Not any different than seeing yourself in a photograph, when you're mostly used to seeing yourself in the mirror. I seem to remember you telling me that that's why many people don't like photographs of themselves, because it's the opposite of what you see in the mirror. So, maybe Hayley would like it better that way. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif You don't think it's ever happened with a photo shoot? Entirely possible. Anyway, I didn't go out of my way to find photos of her looking the other way, it's just that I had trouble finding ANY of her looking the "right" way. Mostly facing forward, very few facing to the side, and then just barely. Those are the press photos. No microphones, no rotating... how about you make a suggestion, comet?

Maybe you should read the post again Libby.
On You Raise me up at Christchurch at about 2:19 with microphone in shot. Don't forget there are often up to 24 frames per second..
There is another similar angle sequence of frames during 3:26.
I am suggesting that is the approximate pose we should be looking for. Microphone in shot but not obscuring the face. Not necessarily from the Christchurch video. I hope my English grammar in this post is good enough to convey what I mean.
I think Hayley was once asked how she would like to be described and her reply was simple
"Hayley Westenra, singer"

Comet, you're grammar seems to be fine. What is not being conveyed is why Martin's photo wouldn't do, since she is indeed holding a microphone, yet it's not obscuring her face.

Because we should aspire to be more than "Ah, that'll do"
Facial expression, Lighting, Contrast between microphone and Hayley's black top, Microphone position.
I think Hayley should also be given the opportunity to approve or disapprove.

I think Hayley should also be given the opportunity to approve or disapprove. Hi Paul It is highly unlikely that we could get Hayley's attention on this one but, truthfully, I don't think it is necessary anyway. We are usually pretty good judges here on the forum. Martin

I kind of see what you mean, Comet, but I don't see it as a big enough deal to be so worried about whether it's amazing or merely passable. I personally would prefer one with less eye makeup. The one Richard posted is a good example of that, but she's looking forward. I assume we still want her to be sort of "looking out" on NZ. I'm still planning to look through some of the other concert photos, but of course we'd have to have the photographer's approval for use. Most likely Grant.
