Yes indeed, and I can remember a concert not many years ago (can't recall where) when Hayley made a similar announcement during the interval, though we also know she doesn't like flashing lights and LEDs to be visible in the front few rows as she finds that can be distracting! She's well used to seeng cameras though. And of course, a few venues are strict about it, the bigger the act at the time the stricter they seem to be, though it's usually possible even then, later on in the concert. US members will I am sure tell us if the situation in the average US concert hall is different. Cheers, Dave

Hi Libby et all, I was suggesting mounting the camera on something so it would need no further attention.
Just place it on something, point it in the general right direction,(Imagine a line through the lens to your subject) don't zoom,(Unless you are very far back and can get away with using the view screen or viewfinder) light setting "SPOTLIGHT" and press record and forget about it. Do stop it at the interval or the files will be huge and unmanageable.
Make sure the battery and card will run for 3 to 4 hours

Well, my camera usually does flash. I've never bothered to find a way to turn it off, but I think I will, because I don't want that to disturb Hayley. Though I'm wondering how many of Hayley's musicians would actually be there. Maybe Tim, I suppose, but that's probably it. Comet, I still think that would be too distracting for myself, because I'd be too anxious about it. I'm also not sure I'd feel comfortable sneaking around like that. As Martin says, I'm not sure I want to be too adventurous in the photography/video-taking department during my first concert. I think if I can turn my camera's flash off (and get it to stay off; some cameras want to turn it back on if the conditions aren't right), I will try to take one or 2 photos, maybe between songs, just to get a glimpse of her dress for you all. That would be important to me. Don't expect too much of me, I'm not a very experienced "tourist", as you well know.

I don't know what sort of camera you have Libby, but unless you have an SLR your camera will probably struggle with the lighting. You never know what the lighting will be like until you get there, but I usually struggle with taking still photos at concerts with the Lumix. For some reason videos seem to work better for me. I find if I want to take still photos of Hayley I do a lot better outside the concert itself, either before or after the show. Then you can use flash is needed. I know we have some very fine concert photos on HWI taken by people like Grant, Steve and Karsten, but all of those have some serious equipment that can cope with the lighting.

Libby don't worry about taking photos too much. I usually find I am too involved watching Hayley that you forget to take photos during the concert. If you get to meet Hayley afterwards would be a good time to take photos

Cheers, Dave The Waterfront Hall in Belfast, there now only exists to my knowledge a video of the first half, Blue Tac or a similar material (Chewing Gum) was offered to cover the offending LED. looking back on this event I regret not switching on a recorder, I thought someone else was doing the business and I just sat back and enjoyed the concert, a recorder at my feet and a clear view of the stage, all I had to do was switch it on and point it in the right direction. I thought it was going to be the same as the Derry concert, but it wasn't. it was special, the sound was magic and the audience response was particularly moving and audible and I missed it. for the sake of pressing a button................. **** ! ****! gone forever **** !

I always want to see what dress she's wearing. Of course this time, I'll be able to see that for myself!! In person!! However, I feel that if I can get away with it, I might try to take at least one, but no guarantees. If it were me on the other end, as usual, I would of course be hoping for photos and videos, but with my inexperience I don't want to feel too pressured to do it. Comet, your deep regret at not taking a video at that one concert is an example of how the worry of taking videos, or not, can put a damper on the experience. You describe sitting back and enjoying the concert, and that sounds absolutely wonderful to me! And yet you're cursing about it! That's why if I try at all, it won't be very much. I want to enjoy every second of it, without negativity surrounding it. I'll be dealing with enough new challenges to exhaust me. I want to remember it all, too. I usually remember songs people sing (or skate or dance to), but I might bring a scrap of paper to write them down, unless they're written inside a programme. Oh, my camera is just a simple Sony digital camera. Nothing fancy at all, just an easy one. I'm pretty sure it's possible to turn the flash function off, but I'm just not sure how photos will turn out without it. My photos from the Josh Groban concert were imperfect enough with the flash!

Unless you are really close to the subject, most digital compact cameras will take a better picture without flash. So much depends on the lighting, and don't expect clear photos if she is moving.

Hi Libby, I was hoping someone else, not you, with a camcorder might do the deed, I agree, sit back and enjoy the experience of the concert itself. Maybe someone local who is familiar with cameras and well equipped might be there I have my fingers crossed, we did place an agent in that area many years ago in the hope of an event like this, but we don't want to blow his cover, I must send another pigeon with a coded message to him.........the last one didn't come back to the loft.

Whew, that's a weight off my shoulders. LOL Much as I'd love to take one for you all, I'm sure the result would be quite lacking. My photos (if any) will be lacking enough, I'm sure. But I think I might at least try once, unless the e-mail forbids it. Thanks John, for your advice. That encourages me to at least try without the flash. Yes, my photos of Josh Groban were blurred from movement, for the most part. Especially the guy at the piano with the wild hair, Ruslan. LOL

Two people from the CW forum are going. Someone named Glen S, who apparently is from the area (I don't think he's a messenger pigeon though, lol). Also a former member of the OF who said he forgot his passwords and is not able to make a new one. It's too bad we have such absent administrators on that forum, I think they're half the problem.

Does the OF still have that problem? I remember, some years ago being locked out of it for over a year, because it would not recognise my password or allow me to change it. Techincal problems like that are unacceptable.

I think that's what you have to do. Anyway, you do post there sometimes, so how did you get back in? I will raise this issue with Bob and the administrators, but they are quite unresponsive. That's half the problem, they're almost never around to address any problems. We were lucky we got a new design for Hushabye. We were promised something new for Paradiso, but we went from 2008 to 2013 with the same yellow design, to go with River of Dreams!

When they revamped the forum I could register again, there was a major upgrade a few years back. I couldn't re-register to start with because it was based on my email address. I think I only had one at that time and if I tried it it said I was already registered.

I'm going to have a very Hayley Christmas this year cause... I'm going to Madison!!!I'm flying into Madison on Thursday morning at 9am, if everything goes well. So I think I will be at Best Western where I will also be staying by 10am. I will be leaving really early on Saturday morning, but I will be able to attend both concerts! I know Libby, Larry, and couple others are attending Thursday night, but I don't remember whose attending Friday night. Have we got plans on what we are doing for fan gatherings for both shows? Are any of you going to sight see while in Madison? We have less than a month before the concerts! I know the Capital building is across the street from BW and about three blocks down is the historic museum of Madison/Wisconsin. I don't know if anyone going is history bluff like me, but both sound interesting places for me during the day. When do you guys plan on heading to the theater? ahh...Sorry, I like to have some order and predictability when I travel. Not to mention, I would like to hang out with ya guys before Thursday's concert most definitely. And before Friday's concert as well if anyone if going to that one! Besides the trip, about 3 weeks ago cdJapan had a promotion and I had points to get rid of so I bought a couple Hayley cds. Haven't listened to them yet, but I've been planning my trip. First time for me to book all my own arrangements. Don't worry though, I have flown before. Several times. Anyways, I hope Hayley performs Summer Rain, Dark Waltz, ATUOT, Let Me Lie, and Prayer. These are my absolute favorites from her; even if it's one or two. I wonder if she will also perform Wuthering Heights in WI since she is also performing it in Cork. Another fav of mine! I've got to go, I have a church event tonight! Hope to talk to you later! Ahh...I'm so excited!!! Alicia
