Taking advantage of the quiet of the forum to post these two videos:
Those who like Max Richter and Ludovico Einaudi will enjoy Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje's Free Dance.
This is Kaitlyn and Andrew's Ravensburger Waltz to Strauss' 'Blue Danube'.
I honestly think they have a really good chance at winning worlds this year. I'm tipping them to beat the French.

Yes, well, the French have been out so far this season due to her concussion. Even when they come back, remember how the Italians fared after coming back from injury last season. In fact, they're still placing below K & A and the Americans, even though they're still the only World champions among them.
Do you know who the singer is in K & A's free dance? I can kind of hear some of what she's singing, but I'm wondering. Was this an already existing song they added to the music, or did they have someone sing it especially for their program. It wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened. Johnny Weir used to get Russian musicians to compose programs specifically for him (I can't say that I ever cared for those programs though; I much prefer his Poker Face routine. LOL). Anyway, at first I found the singing a little strange because of the sound of the voice isn't all that pretty, and I wasn't expecting it, since there isn't any singing in that piece. But now that I'm used to it, I enjoy it and find it adds emotion and helps convey their story.

Found this gorgeous program while listening to Sarah Brightman the other day. It's 2006 Olympic champion, and one of the most beautiful skaters out there, Shizuka Arakawa, skating to It's a Beautiful Day, by Sarah Brightman.

I don't think Seattle's station will be airing Olympics at 5pm; that's news time. They'll wait for prime time, except perhaps for NBC SN; they probably will show it live. Edit: I just checked CBC's listings for the first couple days of the Olympics, and starting that Friday afternoon, they will be showing Olympics pretty much non-stop! Yay! It doesn't say what everything is yet, but I'll just have to check off and on. They might do the same thing as NBC does, and switch back and forth, but maybe not. The first skating to commence will be the team event, going by country. Each (major competitive) country will have their selected skaters do a short and long program, and the country who does the best (not sure if it's by points, or what) wins. Last time I believe team Russia won; the US got bronze. So, if you see that Ashley Wagner is an Olympic bronze medalist, it's from the US team's win of that medal as a whole. The only Americans to win a medal last time were Meryl Davis & Charlie White in ice dancing, who won gold (the first for a US ice dance pair).

I know you saw this on Facebook, but I'd like to share it here, too. It is Jason Brown's stunningly beautiful free program to The Scent of Love from The Piano. There is just a gentle, simple beauty to this music, and the way he is dressed is very plain, but his graceful movements and genuine, emotional expression are what makes this program so extra special. The last bit of the program is the best part, when the violin joins in and the music seems to reach a climax; a graceful climax, though, mind you. There's really nothing showy about the program at all, in the music or the choreography. There is just beauty, plain and simple. I say it's not showy, and yet at the same time, it shows off Jason's exquisite skating style and his joy of skating. If this was the only skating program I could watch for the rest of my life, I would not be unhappy.
Now, here it is:

Now, what is the "NBC TV Network"? Is this normal NBC, what everyone with a TV can get, or is this a cable channel? Thanks. And if it is cable, I assume regular NBC would show it at normal primetime? (Usually starting at 8pm?)

(Usually starting at 8pm?) It is the regular, normal NBC channel that everyone with a TV gets lol. I had a look at your channel 5's TV listings for Thursday, February 8. Your local news will air at 3 pm, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt will air at 3:30 pm, more local news at 4 pm, then O-Zone at 4:30 pm (this is your local Olympic show featuring local and national athletes). At 5 pm the Olympics LIVE primetime show airs -this day's show will start with figure skating. At 8:30 pm they repeat the live primetime show from 5 pm. At midnight is your local news, and at 12:35 am is the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

Oh, thank you! I was hoping that's what it was. I think they must be doing it this way because they can do it live. When it was in Sochi, I guess "live" our time would have been much earlier in the day for us. This will be a time when many people are off work, and then those who don't want to/can't stay up severely late can watch it. However, some of those days, I will probably have to partially rely on the later broadcast, as I won't be home till after 7:30pm. For the last week of the Games, I have some vacation time. I had to make sure I was around for the ice dancing.

I was looking at the TV Guide local listings, and now I see that I misunderstood somehow (my own fault). For some reason I thought that they were replaying the coverage after the live coverage, and that way I'd be able to just watch it after I got home in the evening. Looks like instead they're showing another segment of Olympics, but the later showing doesn't show skating (so far). Well, guess I'll have to record it and watch it later. Oh well, same thing, I guess.
And... am I calculating this right, or is 5pm Pacific 10 am in S. Korea? That's awfully early in the day, if it's live! I don't think I have never attended a skating event earlier than noon.

I am sorry, I just saw your post now! Yes you are right... it is early because the same venue is used for short track speed skating later in the day. I found it weird that last week's figure skating aired on the NBCSN network for the most part, instead of NBC, on the east coast. Some days they switched the last hour of skating over to NBC.

Yes, they have been doing that. They showed all of the ice dancers tonight, the first 3 groups on NBCSN, while the last 2 groups, the best teams in the world, basically, were shown on NBC. At least they told us, and at least I feel like I got to see more skaters, it's just that it's a little confusing and nerve-wracking not knowing when or where the skating is going to be on until you check WHILE it's on. You have to go back and forth.

Plenty of snow and ice in the UK at the moment but some ice is welcome, especially when combined with beautiful music and wonderful skating. I'm surprised no-one has posted anything from the Figure Skating Gala at the Winter Olympics so I'll have a go. Now I'm no expert (I wouldn't know a triple salchow from a lutz). My starting point is always the music. If I like the tune then I get interested in the skating ! The biggest cheer of the night (and deservedly so) was reserved for Japanese skater Yuzuru Hanyu who performed beautifully to "Notte stellata" by Il Volo (a group I will clearly have to investigate further). This is based on a very famous piece for cello by French composer Saint-Saens called "The Swan" (hence the feathers on his costume). Some people say Classical-Crossover is dead. Clearly they have never watched Figure Skating and personally I'm very glad I did !
