Forum Upgrade to v.5: questions/comments/issues

The upgrade to ProBoards forum software version 5 is scheduled for mid-afternoon GMT on Saturday, December 28.

Please use this thread to ask for assistance on any issues you may have regarding the upgrade.

Also kindly post your comments or suggestions.

As we get ready for our forum software upgrade on Saturday, here is an article on some of the many new features...

I like the update! Just two things: I think peoples' banners are getting cut off, and my signature smiley is gone. But, overall, I like it!

Hi Taylor,

Yes, the larger avatar area has truncated the right edge of the wider-width signatures.  However I just widened the forum a bit...now they ar OK.

The custom smilie code could not be replicated; I had to find a plugin to allow them back, in creating posts at least.  The plugin created a custom drop-down smilie box in the 'create post'  area. When you click the smiley box , click "view all smilies" to access our legacy smilies.

Hi all,

Whew!  I think that is everything is complete.  Moving / copying everything from the test forum to this forum was quite a job!

I was happy to replicate our custom menu buttons, our three-box welcome table, and our custom smilies.  Kind of bringing the old into the new!

Please take a few minutes and review your Profile settings.  Simply click the "profile" button below the top banner.  Then click the 'edit profile" on the right side. Pay particular attention to your Privacy and Notifications Settings.  There many new options for you to consider. 


Also, post about any issues or errors you are seeing...especially members using Chrome / Firefox / Safari, smartphones, etc.

Edit...I widened the forum a bit, so your signature images are no longer cut off.

Hi Joe,

I can't see any "Profile button". The only button I have is labelled "Participated". Under the banner is a cyan rectangle with no buttons. Should there be some? This is the same in both Firefox and IE. I can't see any means of displaying the last 50 posts, or threads with unread posts. No search facility. No PM facility. And yes, I am listed as online.

Not impressed so far...

I almost always view the forum on the mobile website, and the new version is much more streamlined. I like it.

All is well for me in Firefox, IE and Chrome... so I wonder if this is a cache issue?

Martin D, have you tried clearing your browser cache? Forced refresh (CTRL-F5) might also work - or failing that (temporarily) a different browser perhaps?

Try it now, Martin D...our custom buttons plugin has two theme options (default and theme 2) I enabled both themes.

I have the same problem as martin no profile access and no its not a cashe issue because until this change i have not been able to logon. its been a long time. and this computer was not built the last time I did log on.

Hi Monte,

Sorry for the trouble... Please click your name or Paste this into your browser hwi.proboards.com/user/121 and click Edit profile, then click the Settings tab.  Then scroll down to forum theme, try either Default or Theme 2, hope one will work for you.  

For other members, just click on your name for to view your profile. And try the other forum theme as mentioned above.

Thanks joe! the theme thing did it. at 1st i clicked on my name but could not fine my saved pm's after i changed the theme from default the buttons were there and all is well again.

Excellent!  

PM's are just called messages now...can you see your saved private messages when you click the Messages button?
