Another one I'm surprised isn't already here on a thread. She's a violinist who's stirring up alot of attention with her pop/electronic-crossover style. I thought to check here after I saw her mentioned on the Classical Crossover website. I first discovered Lindsey from this excellent Zelda medley youtu.be/b3KUyPKbR7Q-Rory

Lindsey brings an infectious enthusiasm to her music. Her videos are always great entertainment. I was lucky enough to see Lindsey in London in January and have booked for her return visit in May. She is definitely worth seeing live if you get the chance. She will be touring Europe in May and June, and I'm sure it won't be long before there are more events announced for the USA. www.lindseystirling.com/tour/As brilliant a violinist as she is though, I don't think her music holds so much appeal without the visual element.

As brilliant a violinist as she is though, I don't think her music holds so much appeal without the visual element. Well that and the mix of the electronic elements, which although I'm not crazy about, do make her sound more unique. But I agree with you, although she knows what she's doing, her playing is a bit repetitive. There's one dancing arpeggio that she uses in nearly every song lol. But people appear to be buying her music, and she's shot up in fame faster than anyone I've seen, so more power to her. And yes, Libby, I like the Skyrim vid too, despite having not played the game. I do love that Lindsey makes music from all different games, movies, etc. I would not have found her otherwise -Rory

I discovered it through Peter Hollens, actually. I'd heard of Lindsey before that, though, but I hadn't paid much attention. Voilinists, or instrumentalists, in general don't excite me much, but it depends on what they play, and how effective their playing is. For example, I discovered a guy named Albert Chang, who did The Misty Mountains song from The Hobbit with 12 of his friends (to be like the company of dwarves), and it was fantastic! Then I listened/watched his rendition of Fix You, and it's really touching and effective the way he plays. He isn't really flashy or anything, and doesn't leap around like a gazelle LOL, but he just arranges the music just right, so that you feel like wow, this is a great interpretation of this song. Peter Hollens I discovered when he did The Misty Mountains song a cappella with hundreds of himself, then I heard his Shenandoah, and was hooked.
Sometimes youtube artists are frustrating, because they seem to do too many covers of popular songs that I'm not necessarily crazy about, and they don't all have CDs. Some of them have songs on Amazon (I don't do Itunes), so that helps. But Albert Chang doesn't, but he should!
