Hey yall! Guess what? Michael Bublé announced his new album! Here's the cover: He also posted a clip of one of the new songs HERE. The CD is available for preorder through Amazon HERE. It's nice, but it seems like he's using more auto tune than he did with his first few albums. Oh well. -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Thanks Taylor! I couldn't find an existing thread for Michael Bublé, so I've started this one and moved your post from the Chat thread. Richard

Of all the singers Hayley needs to have a duet with, Michael Bublé should head the list. Like Josh Groban he is a protegé of David Foster who obviously enjoys Hayley's talent. Why doesn't someone in the powers that be arrange such a duet?

Well, so far David Foster has only paired her up with Andrea Bocelli. But maybe because he knows Hayley, that will increase her chances of working with these guys in the future. Is Michael still working with DF, though? Because I don't think Josh is anymore. At least, his last 2 albums have not been produced by him. But I don't know whether they've completely parted ways or not, and whether it's still possible for DF to arrange things like duets for Josh. We know that Hayley has interest in collaborating with both of them (but she mentions Michael Buble the most, when asked). And we do know that Josh likes her music (told it to her in person, in fact). So, she's got that going for her. I'm sure Josh would agree to working with her if an opportunity presented itself. How can you tell whether auto tune is being used or not? I know it's fairly common these days, but how can you detect it, is what I'm wondering?

It's kind of hard to explain... Just something in their voice sounds unnatural. Maybe their tone sounds too rigid, no flow from note to note. IDK, but I can tell. I can even hear a bit on Paradiso. It's very sparse, but it's there occasionally. -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Good question Libby, I also would like to know the answer to that question. Some of our members must have very sharp ears and can say within a few listens of an album that "Auto Tune" has been used. How do you know for sure ?

Hi Libby, Paul, Taylor and everyone,
I haven't heard MB's latest album yet but I have his two previous ones and he is definitely autotuned or melodyned on at least some of the tracks. He has also used it "live" on at least one major TV show here in the UK, "An Audience With Michael Buble" broadcast a year or two back on ITV. I think Hayley was in the audience for that one!
But he doesn't need to use autotune/melodyne as he is a very good singer! So I think it's a decision made by him and his management purely to help sell more records. Like it or not, many people expect to hear a singer performing 'live' sound identical to their CDs and the only way to do that, if the CD has much autotune/melodyne on it, is to do the same "live" and these days, that's what they can do.
How can you tell? Well once you've identified the particular sound a few times, it's easy, you just know. Start by listening to Cher's "Believe" a few times, which is a deliberately extreme example, then listen to some Justin Bieber and you are getting closer to what is done to Buble's voice, on some tracks anyway. Listen for perfection in 'live' performances - if it's completely note perfect and exactly matches the CD track, it's probably autotuned, melodyned or mimed. Autotuned voices tend to slip unnaturally rapidly from one note to another on occasions, it's hard to explain though - and that effect isn't always found especially using melodyne or similar voice processing software, if it's just done to get a certain "sound".
The sad thing for me is that so many people actually like the artificial sound that it's unlikely to be stopped anytime soon. Not even if certain singers like Buble don't need it to sing in tune (and just use it to produce a certain 'sound'). Sadly.
But I like Buble in spite of it, and I agree that for Hayley to perform with him would be good for her but only IF he did it as "live" and untouched as Hayley usually does. The advantage of that over, for example Josh Groban, would be that MB has a wider Worldwide appeal than JG - and Buble has even had no. 1 albums in the UK whereas JG has struggled here in comparison.
Cheers, Dave

I have always found Bublé to be too "slick" like a car dealer or an insurance salesman, patronising is probably a word I might use for him, even though I have several of his albums, I prefer not to watch him, a bit like Daniel O'Donnell, great voice for the radio, but spare me the view of him.
I find Josh Groban more honest, someone you could trust.

I have to agree with you there, Comet. Michael seems like more of a cool, "Jets" type character (minus all the gang violence), the type teen girls seem to swoon for. Josh has more of a mature, calm air about him. As you said, someone you would trust. On a side note- just listened to Brave. One word: AWESOME. -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif
