Prince Charles's wife Camilla has been given some wardrobe advice by singer Hayley Westenra ahead of the royal couple's visit to New Zealand.
The 25-year-old soprano was among 150 special guests at St James's Palace in London on Wednesday evening for a reception in advance of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall's tour of Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand in November, marking the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Westenra met the duchess, who will make her first visit to the three nations next month.
"I was just talking to her about what the weather might be like and what she might like to wear," Westenra told NZ Newswire.
"I mentioned that it can get pretty windy and that maybe she should wear a tight-fitting skirt so there's no chance it could be blown up.
"She said she was excited about the trip and I told her she would have a wonderful time."
Camilla, 65, and Charles, who will celebrate his 64th birthday in Wellington during the tour, arrive in New Zealand on November 10.
They'll visit Auckland, Wellington, Feilding and Christchurch before their November 16 departure.
"It will be great for them to go to Christchurch," Westenra said about her home town.
"After Prince William visited it lifted everyone's spirits and this visit will do the same."
The royal couple arrived at Wednesday's reception to a traditional Maori welcome, including waiata and haka, by London-based cultural group Ngati Ranana.
Opera singer Dame Kiri Te Kanawa was among the reception crowd on Wednesday and said she was pleased to hear Charles and Camilla are making young people a focus of their upcoming trip.
"When it comes to singing in particular, young people today are not being trained as well as they have been in the past.
"Youth welfare and education ... is a priority for the prince and that is reflected in their tour itinerary."
While there were a couple of top NZ voices in the room, it was Australia's Kylie Minogue who sang for the royal couple.
In wishing Charles and Camilla "bon voyage", Minogue sang On A Night Like This, I Believe In You, and Locomotion.
Other NZ guests included All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen, former All Blacks Sean Fitzpatrick and Anton Oliver and world renowned chefs Peter Gordon and Anna Hansen.
