Friday 5th October 2012 She Chocolat Restaurant Governors Bay
With La Petite Manouche
After work on Friday in Christchurch I had to quickly get ready for a drive over the Port Hills to get to the village of Governors Bay at the end of Lyttleton Harbour.
This concert was at a chocolate restaurant and so of course I had plenty of chocolates with my meal lol and I had a great view of the harbour. The restaurant was full so maybe around 60 people were there. John was there he had set up the sound system and Fiona's parents were also there.
At 8pm the concert started. Joining Fiona was La Petite Manouche which consists of two young guitarists. (One had been taught piano by Fiona's mum).
The concert had a Gypsy theme with a lot of swing music included so a lot of Django Reinhardt songs were played. Also included was Tangissimo.
Fiona and the boys were in top form and the audience loved the music.
I was seated at the back for the first half but I was lucky and swapped seats for the second half and was near the stage.
La Petite opened with their own song Legacy before Fiona joined them again. More Gypsy and swing songs which include Swing 42, Harlem Nocturne. Of course they had to play Memories of Martin and Mary. Fiona dedicated Memories ( a different song ) to a to be wed couple. Another song was Dark Eyes. They finished the concert with a medley of Czardist / Hava Nagila / Hungarian Dance No 5.
But we got them to do an encore which was Douce Ambiance.
I just had time to thank Fiona for the excellent concert before it was time to head back over the hill.
