I don't see what the problem is. Here in the states we think highly of Simon Cowell for all the good he's done in launching our Americal Idols, many of whom are household names. I think he will do a world of good in getting Jonathan noticed and built up. He was correct in his opinion that Charlotte needed to be dumped because, clearly, she isn't in the same league. You just watch: Mr. Cowell will n the weeks ahead tranform that awkward and nervous 17-year-old into a goliath who will record and tour with the best of them.

Sorry Steve, in my opinion Mr Cowell has done huge damage to the music business, All for his own profit. His shows are about celebrity, not music. That poor lad could easily end up a nervous wreck, just like Susan Boyle did. And even if he doesn't, he will be famoues for 5 minutes, then dropped like poor Jai McDowell.

Hi Elliott, From what I have seen he is not half bad. And on the wrong show! Martin D Well, my first thought was that BGT had found The Voice, I must admit!

Jonathan may be favourite (as if people are stupid enough to bet on shows like this!) but this 11 year old girl is very interesting too. Such purity of tone at such a young age. Remind you of any one ?! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifyoutu.be/fqGXtjiuFwMIncidentally, the winner of BGT 2012 will pocket £500,000. (Half of that kindly donated by Mr Cowell, which is about 2 days wages for him since next to a very smug photo in next week's Radio Times it says he earns around $70m a year. I assume the other half comes from his mate Richard Branson). Interesting then that the winner of BBC Young Musician 2012 (for purely classical instrumentalists and a far worthier competition) on Sunday night will pick up £2000. A very modest reward in comparison but that's the price you pay for keeping the media moguls out. Long may that continue !

The final line-up is now complete and the Welsh have a strong hand in it. Not only do they have a good young dance troupe (Nu Sxool) but also a young male voice choir (Only Boys Aloud). That's a lot of friends, family and rellies to pick up the phone and the Land of Song always support their own (witness how Only Men Aloud won album of the year at the Classical Brits 2 years ago after winning the BBC show "Last Choir Standing"). It would therefore be no great surprise to see the half million pound winner's cheque heading back over the Severn Bridge later this weekend. Much as I would love to see Molly or Jonathan win I can't help feeling that the student folk trio Loveable Rogues or pop balladeer Sam Kelly may have more popular appeal. Then again, it is often the runners-up who enjoy greater success in the long run. After all, last year's winner has already been dumped by his record company. Ah well, that's Simon Cowell for you. No one ever made millions by considering someone else's feelings.

Yes Richard, Jonathan came second to a dancing dog (no jokes about Winalot please) with Only Boys Aloud in third. I was hoping to post an interview with Pudsey but he wasn't available for comment. He had an urgent appointment with a lamp-post or better still Simon Cowell's leg. (Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke !)
Well now that this inane drivel is over for another year I'm off to watch some REAL talent: Laura van der Heijden and Yuanfan Yang in the Final of BBC Young Musician 2012 at 6pm tonight on BBC2.

I always knew that Pudsey would do well, and good luck to him. Rachael of Raven is right - no one who considers themsves to be a serious musician should have anything to do with that show.

Hi Nicola,
Yes I agree, but all of the finalists were wonderful in my book. Riveting performances. The talent on show there blows BGT out of the water.

...Or unless they have no other route to success, of course, when BGT starts looking like a good option.
As many of you have doubtless observed, the modern world of music is very much geared towards the teenage or early twenty-something performer who also looks good. As there are so many people out there who want to become successful artists, the record companies can simply pick and choose.
Anyone who does not fit that mould - the Susan Boyles, Paul Potts' and even the Faryl Smiths (Too young!) cannot launch a career in the normal way, so BGT must look like a great way to bypass the record companies and appeal directly to the buying public. It seems to work for them, too.
So not mad, just accurately weighing their chances of success with the market currently the way it is.

Hi all,
I've not been following the 2012 series much....I'll have to have a look at he semifinal and the final. I did hear that Paul Potts, winner on the first series of BGT, supported his fellow Welsh acts in this final.

Wow, Pudsey is great! That's the best animal act I've ever seen on any of these shows! Lots of animal acts try out on AGT, but they never make it very far. They'll start out really cute, but the next time, the animals won't do anything, or something else goes wrong. But this is very impressive! Pudsey never misses a step, never forgets what he's supposed to do, and looks so happy doing it the whole time! He doesn't even need a treat bribe to do his tricks! It's almost like it's his playtime or something, he's so happy. He does have a naturally happy look about him anyway, and he is sooooo cute! Literally one of the cutest dogs I've ever seen. Ashleigh must be a very good trainer too. To all you cynics out there, this show is about talent, and no matter what you say, these 2 are very talented! I mean, can you get your dog to do that? I thought not. And even compared to other dog acts out there, this is really, really good. Singing isn't the only type of talent worth anything. Pudsey probably will probably get to be in a movie or two (but probably won't win an Oscar LOL), so it's not like his talent isn't worth anything. The comment from one of the judges about Pudsey cheering up his son shows that at the very least, Pudsey would be popular with kids. Kids love animals, especially adorable ones like Pudsey. Hey, and Ashleigh herself has the opportunity of a great animal training career! She could train dogs for circuses or movies. Whatever opportunity arises for them, it will be very well-deserved! There are tons and tons of singers in the world already. Singing acts get a little old, unless they're really, really special. It's nice to have some variety on these shows once in a while. None of the singers who have ever won these GT shows have ever become very famous. The only ones who have been very successful, that I'm aware of, were the 2nd place winners (SB, JE) ! So don't feel too bad about the singers not winning. Right now, I'm thinking of all the people who got voted off American Idol way sooner than they deserved (especially this season!), but they still have an opportunity at a successful career. Skylay Laine has a potentially big career in country music ahead of her. She is really good. Colton Dixon will probably have a big career in Christian rock. Jennifer Hudson from several years ago only got 6th place, and she won an Oscar for Dream Girls. So you see, these singers still have a chance to be successful, whether they win or not. If a singer has major talent, they're going to get a record deal, even if they don't win. The old saying "Winning isn't everything" comes to mind.
