I don't know much about this, but apparently Hayley met the Duchess of Cornwall at this event today. This photograph was posted on Twitter by Clarence House:

For those that aren't aware today is Commonwealth Day here in the UK. There are a number of associated events including this one and also a service at Westminster Abbey (but not involving Hayley).

Camilla hails Commonwealth women

The Duchess of Cornwall has celebrated the achievements of inspirational women at an event held to mark Commonwealth Day.

Former actress Jane Asher, New Zealand soprano Hayley Westenra, and four of the five female Chelsea Pensioners were also present for the reception held at Kensington and Chelsea Town Hall in London.

The reception aimed to highlight the success of women from the UK and Commonwealth who are leaders in their fields or inspirational figures for their dedication to a chosen cause.

Commonwealth Day is celebrated every year on the second Monday in March.

Camilla met figures from the worlds of academia, entertainment, law and diplomacy, and signed the guest book at the town hall after chatting with members of the public.

The mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Councillor Julie Mills - who hosted the event - described Camilla as "a splendid member of the sisterhood", adding: "On the odd occasion, we're allowed to celebrate ourselves."

Westenra, the classical singer, said: "We spoke about her trip to New Zealand later this year, she's looking forward to it which is very exciting. She suggested I could sing when she's out there, which was lovely."

She added: "It's also lovely to meet so many high achieving women today."

Dorothy Hughes, 88, became the first female Chelsea Pensioner in 2009 after operating anti-aircraft guns in London during the Second World War. After chatting to Camilla, she said: "I think she's lived a very full life. She must have been up against a great deal of resentment and she has coped extremely well."

Three hundred men and five women make up the Chelsea Pensioners, a retirement home for veterans of the British Army based at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

I know, when I met Hayley after the show, I thought what a pretty dress she was wearing as well as of course looking gorgeous herself. She looks really nice wearing it to meet the Duchess. I think it’s lovely photo and the event ‘Women Agents of Change’ do good work too and the women that take part are for real outstanding works and achievements and notice the celebration of inspiration.

Thanks too for the photo of Hayley with me, a privilege, can’t help having that grin you mentioned when stood next to her though, shall have to do it again sometime.

But something I think is quite important and I’ve noticed about Hayley, is that unlike some women who are famous, that seem to have to wear something different publicly for every occasion, I've noticed Hayley wears things more often, like ordinary women. It also respects those in the world that can’t afford to for the sake of it. I think that’s really nice, but she also gets chance to wear a lot of outfits too, as she has so many events she goes to. And especially what she wears has real style, class, looks pretty and is quality, including her jumpers. She has very good taste in clothes!

Not necessarily, although I think that is what Charles would like. Some people would oppose her being called queen I suspect, because she is divorced as Wallis Simpson was. Charles of course was a widower, rather than a divorcee when he married her, although his marriage was certainly on the rocks before Diana's death.

First of all, welcome Jonathan! I'm very happy to see you've met Hayley at Bournemouth. Looking forward to reading more of your posts!

Thanks Richard for finding that article about today's meeting between Hayley and the Dutchess of Cornwall.

Regarding Chelsea pensioners, I never knew that women were just admitted (and rightly so). One's mind is used to seeing those gallant gentlemen in scarlet coats with dozens of hard-earned medals.

I had thought Camilla would become "queen consort" upon the Prince of Wales' accession to the throne, but she will use the title of HRH The Princess Consort.

So why is Hayley wearing a silly name tag at this event?? People there know exactly who she is.




Then there's the matter of the future "HRH The Princess Consort" (thanks, Joe). To me that's an ungainly title which effectively puts her in her place — how very sad because Prince Charles has waited forever to be King and he should be able to call his wife a Queen when that day finally arrives. I guess we'll have to wait for Kate before a new Queen is so named.

And is that a name sticker?! How silly! Camilla isn't wearing one so neither should Hayley.

I may be wrong but I think the throne belongs to Charles unless he abdicates.

Out of curiosity, are there any members of the Royal family Hayley hasn't met yet? She's met every one of them that I'm aware of, except for the Duchess of... Cambridge, is it (Kate) ?
