I doubt that this was a "paying gig" in the usual sense. Hayley has benefitted greatly for her association with the All Blacks and probably wants to keep that friendship on path. No better way to do this than a splendid favour such as this! Add to that the personal satisfaction of helping to make a nice wedding even more special. That said, I bet she and her friends and family are now comp'd for life at AB games.

Carter's wedding a perfect 10

Being engaged to Dan Carter may have felt like she was forever destined to be the bridesmaid but, on Friday, former Black Sticks beauty Honor Dillon was very much the star at her and Carter's idyllic wedding.

The bride wore a flowing ivory dress with a plunging front, a cutaway back, a 2m train behind her and a veil over her face.

The 100 guests gathered at a secluded lakeside spot at the exclusive Lake Timara Lodge, 15km west of Blenheim.

Carter and his four groomsmen, all wearing grey suits with long black tails, waited for Dillon as Hayley Westenra serenaded seated family and friends.

At 4pm, Dillon emerged from the nearby lodge. Her sisters, Michal Wells and Amber Edgar, were among the four bridesmaids.

Her father, Picton architect Jimma, led her across the bridge to a secluded grass verge surrounded by oak and willow trees on the 10ha site.

A sculpture of a large feather and a heart-shaped rock marked the spot where they exchanged vows in an Anglican service.

Westenra - who wore flowing white robes - was almost drowned out by the chorus of birds, said Dillon's cousin, David Dillon.

Former All Black Aaron Mauger said Dillon looked "stunning".

The couple exchanged traditional wedding vows and several hymns were sung during the 30-minute ceremony.

Meanwhile, teams of security guards with heat-seeking equipment scoured the forest surrounds for any uninvited interlopers.

Afterwards, the Christchurch songstress sang an aria while Carter and Dillon signed the register.

Gentried landowners of Marlborough - the well-to-do family friends of the Dillons - mingled with All Blacks past and present, including a hobbling Richie McCaw and coach Graham Henry.

Ali Williams, who weds fiancee Casey Green in a few weeks, was a keen observer of proceedings.

Secrecy was such that even the wedding guests had no idea where they were going when they gathered in the centre of Blenheim on Friday afternoon.

Road closures, privacy statements, threats of trespass - it had all the trappings of a celebrity wedding.

ACP Media, the publishers of the Australian Women's Weekly, which bought exclusive rights to the photos, arranged for planes to fly overhead during the service to prevent the press getting a sneak peak.

Jayson Ryan, managing director of Ryan Security, said the company had been doing "close protection security" for the All Blacks for years.

"Dan trusts us. We were the logical choice."

Security guards armed with night-vision goggles patrolled the lodge and neighbouring properties, Ryan said.

But despite the tight security, one lucky neighbour enjoyed a clear view of the entire ceremony.

After the vows, the party moved indoors to a large marquee for the reception.

The bridal party sat in front of a "blaze of peonies and oriental lilies a metre deep".

A four-piece covers band played for several hours.

At 10pm, the party moved outside to take in a huge fireworks display that lit up the sky.

Guests began leaving soon after, while others partied on until 1am.

Those who were talking said the couple scored a perfect 10.

HONOR TURNS HER BACK ON REGAL LOOK

She was marrying into rugby royalty but Honor Dillon steered clear of the princess look with her wedding gown. Instead, the 29-year-old went for metres of ivory-coloured silk satin wrapped into a plain but beautiful dress.

The colour - one shade deeper than champagne - set off Dillon's tan, and a plunging V down the back showed just the right amount of skin.

The front of the dress was less risque, with a modest V-neck and inch-thick straps across her shoulders. The bodice hugged her figure and streamed into an A-line skirt, without a hint of puffiness. A lightweight tulle veil trailed to the ground behind her.

I wonder what 'flowing white robes' means? Perhaps it was an outfit that was selected for Hayley to do the singing in. I'm sort of visualising choir robes, but I'm not sure if that's what it was.

Although, I don't really know about all these 'magazine deals' for weddings. All the secrecy and the guests not being allowed to take photos etc all sounds really quite stressful.

The country will need to find a new most eligible bachelor now that All Blacks No 10 Dan Carter had married his long-time sweetheart Honor Dillon in a glittering ceremony at Lake Timara Lodge near Blenheim on Friday.

Kiwi songbird Hayley Westenra delivered an ''incredible'' rendition of Pokarekare Ana at the traditionally styled ceremony in Marlborough, one of the 180 guests has revealed.

The guest, who did not want to be named, revealed details of the lakeside wedding and handed over a copy of the service, which included readings and Christmas carols.

''It was superb. Very, very well done,'' he said.

Celebrity guests included All Blacks Richie McCaw and Ali Williams, and their former coach Graham Henry.

The service sheet listed Dillon's bridesmaids as Amy-Kate Snowise, Amber Edgar, Michal Wells and Jessica Bradley, and Carter's groomsmen as Ben Jones, Jimmy Cowan, Doug Tausili and Simon Walsh.

Carter's sister Sarah gave a reading at the wedding, which was shrouded in secrecy after the couple agreed a deal, rumoured to be worth $50,000, with a magazine.

''Honor and Dan came together as friends. Today they pledge not only their love, but also the strength, warmth and, most importantly, the fun of true friendship,'' she said.

The guest said Dillon was ''very beautiful'' in a classic white wedding dress, her face covered by a veil as she was led down a grass aisle, through guests seated on white chairs, to the lakeside altar, where she was greeted by Kings College chaplain Warner Wilder.

He led a 45-minute ceremony ended with a flyover by Blenheim pilot Jay McIntyre, who said he did not catch a glimpse of Carter or Dillon because he was performing ''aerobatic training'', and worried he might crash.

The guest said the wedding party was led away for photographs after the ceremony while guests mingled lakeside.

Guests arriving at a post-wedding lunch at the lodge yesterday said the wedding was ''good fun'' and their hangovers weren't as bad as expected.

Former All Black Aaron Mauger, who arrived with his heavily pregnant wife Amy, said the ceremony was ''fantastic'' and that the bride looked stunning.

Security patrolled the estate's perimeter, manning roadblocks to keep prying media away, while the aerobatics overhead stopped helicopters from flying media in for a closer look.

Guests were banned from taking photos.

Hayley Westenra serenades the famous couple as they prepare to wed - the strains of "Amazing Grace" sending chills up the spines of the 180 seated guests. The atmosphere is one of pure joy.

The hymn "Now Thank We All Our God" was followed by "Pokarekare Ana" echoing through the spectacular venue, and finally, Fleetwood Mac's "Songbird", both performed by Hayley.

So it sounds like this is just a teaser and there will be more photos released after Christmas. The bride, Honor, looks very pretty in her dress.

I'm still wondering what the first article meant by saying Hayley sang an aria. The Woman's Day magazine doesn't mention any arias. So, unless Woman's Day left something out, the other reporter must not know what an aria is.

Songbird is a wonderful choice for a wedding! I was wondering if she might sing I Knew I Loved You, but I suppose she probably sang whatever the couple/family wanted her to sing.

Jillian, you were right about the dress! Except I'm confused about the white robes now. I suppose she must have changed after her performance.
