Well that duet made my Christmas ! Despite the technical difficulties, TOTALLY AWESOME ! Princess Anne was clearly Hayleywowed right from the start although I think it was a pity Hayley didn't get to meet her afterwards. Did someone think Leona Lewis and NIcole Scherzinger more worthy of meeting royalty or did I just blink at the wrong time ?

Hayley and Rolando both were introduced to Princess Anne after the performance! Cheers, Jillian

As for the performances... Whispers in a Dream was too short for me. The part at the beginning with the ladies around her in bright-colored outfits, looking at her in such artificial wonder... I watched twice, and I could not see Hayley dashing at all. I saw her starting to turn, but then the camera moved away from her, and I didn't see her again until she was walking... not dashing Tonight was really good, especially at the beginning, I thought. But half the time Rolando looked like he was going to take a bite out of her, the way he kept moving his head. LOL... Hayley's effort to compete with Rolando really showed... Hi Libby! I thought Whispers was the right length in that context, it gave time for the duet, which wouldn't have happened otherwise. And I loved the very different take on it, the dressing table, ladies in waiting etc., which I thought followed on nicely from Rolando's opening Charlie Chaplin song. I think all three were done in an attempt to make them blend better, perhaps with some kind of historical theme? I think you have to view this 8 minute performance as a whole, fully to appreciate it. As for the dashing, well as Simba said, Hayley had less then 30 seconds to get from her Whispers set up onto the balcony, which wasn't even there initially. She had a large and no doubt heavy flowing gown on and high heels, and had to make that walk right round the stage area and all its the equipment, in view of the audience and yet remain outwardly calm - she couldn't just run! Finally she had to climb 10 or 11 steps in her dress and heels and arrive at the top ready to sing and not out of breath. You can tell from her opening notes how much effort and concentration she needed to do all that so precisely, which also proved (to me) that this was a truly live performance. I don't see any signs of later edits either, as Peter suggested: I think it is all real-time (watch the crew in the background while Hayley has to pause, out of shot, waiting for them). She had a far more difficult task than Rolando and I thought she pretty well nailed it (although her final note with the powerful Rolando must have been tough!) As for taking a bite, perhaps Rolando had Hayley confused with her fictional namesake Lucy Westenra, the vampire, and decided he should try to get his bite in first? Cheers, Dave

Oh, one other thing I haven't seen mentioned.
Hayley and Rolando originally performed before the interval but were promoted for the TV broadcast to the top-of-the-bill segment in the final half hour (just after 9:30 pm, this was truly prime time TV). This is why there are no signs of significant problems in their segment: the problems and re-takes started after the interval.
I suspect that the producers thought their performance had star quality - and added some of the much needed class that was missing from certain earlier parts of the broadcast (Nicole Schwarzinger though also did very well with Phantom).
Cheers, Dave

Two come to mind: Rolando to Hayley: "Aaaaargh - You are stepping on my right foot"!! or, Rolando to Hayley: "My tonsils are bigger than yours"!!
