Hi everyone, I am currently suffering withdrawal symptoms after 16 days of unmatched sporting excellence, available for about 16 hours a day live in HD on up to 24 different TV channels as well as the main BBC channels, and because I am retired, I've been watching most of them for most of the time! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSo today feels somewhat unreal and I feel a bit sad. But on a positive note, well done to the US team for coming top of the medals table and pushing China into second place - however you measure it! Well done also to the GB & N Ireland team for finishing 3rd on the Gold Medals table used by everyone except the US, and 4th on a total medal count. It always seems odd how the US media lump all medals together when the rest count Golds first but hey, that's how they like it, there is probably some good historical reason for it. And well done to the NZ team which now has six gold medals, and might be right at the top when you allow for population size! Oh well... back to reality now... Cheers, Dave

I am also a bit sad that the Olympics are over. . Anyone want a TV? But I see the NBC Sports Network is airing prominent events this week NBC really messed up the closing ceremony coverage. The 'best of' aired 8:45 to 11pm then resumed 12am to 12:15. A whinging fall preview comedy was snuck in the coverage. They failed to show the traditional last medal presentation (men's marathon). In looking at the list of performers, several were not broadcast. The bit with TV comedy's Only Fools and Horses's Rodney and Del's three wheeled van was barely shown (presenter Bob Costas said that Del was a Robin Hood-type person!!) I saw Raven but it didn't look like Raven! Flimsy Jessie J was a bit much...one time maybe but not twice. Wow...NBC olympic's Facebook page has thousands of unhappy viewers www.facebook.com/nbcolympics

Where were Raven? I wasn't looking at the screen every second, since I didn't find the show particularly captivating. I did like seeing Annie Lennox, and I was hoping to see Muse, but NBC censored it severely. I also know they censored the Opening too. But it seems I did not miss much by not seeing the lady sing Abide with Me, according to Martin D! LOL

First place isn't the only place that matters, that's for sure. I'm sure those lady rowers from NZ are proud of their bronze medals, and the equestrian team as well. Why wouldn't you count the total number of medals? I think it's odd that you're even wondering about it. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

That's just horrible!! I didn't eve know there was a tribute to the 7/7 bombing victims!! Honestly, the Olympics need to be taken by ESPN or ABC. "Not suitable for American audiences"?? Please. What's unsuitable about it? And I actually wanted to see whitewater kayaking. But it was never on. Ok, tirade over. Still, a good job to all the athletes who participated. And I caught just a glimpse of Raven while they sang "Our House". Also finally found the part that we Americans missed during the opening here. -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

They were all on a truck which went around the athletics track.

Great scenes for Katie Taylor's gold medal win in the Boxing. Ireland have 3 Boxing medals (Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan both won Bronze), and another chance of a gold medal with John Joe Nevin. Congratulations to all. Yes, well done Ireland, best result since 1956 apparently, especially Katie Taylor and I have to say, I was cheering and willing her on in the boxing final! On a related note, there was a very nice article in the Irish Independent the other day about the relationship between the Irish and British teams and fans, at these Olympics. www.independent.ie/opinion/analysis/ciaran-byrne-sporting-chance-for-team-gb-to-be-good-buddies-3196541.html . I enjoyed reading that! Cheers, Dave

Hi everyone, especially our friends in the US who may have missed parts of the opening and closing ceremonies because of the NBC editing. The official Olympics broadcaster Olympics Broadcasting Services (OBS) has posted the entire Opening ceremony on its Youtube channel here: Opening Ceremony, completeand the entire closing ceremony can be found here: Closing Ceremony, completeIt looks like all of the sports events are also available to watch on the OBS Youtube channel. Excellent! Cheers, Dave

Nah, I am no longer interested. What I did see wasn't all that exciting. Aly Raisman's floor routine, now that was exciting!

That's nice. I wouldn't want the DVD just for that, though. I might be interested in a DVD of the ladies' gymnastics, however. I'm afraid the NBC Olympics website will eventually not have the videos anymore. I couldn't find them on youtube.
