Any advice ?
I can see a piece of paused video on screen.
What do I do next ? But where does it go or where do I paste it ?
Tried Microsoft paint but the photo image disappears !
Bah Humbug !
Take a screen shot from Google
Ever see something on your screen that you’d like to email or save for later? With Microsoft Windows XP, you can take a screen shot and capture an exact image of what’s on the screen. To take a screen shot and save it as a picture
Click the window you want to capture. Press Alt+Print Screen by holding down the Alt key and then pressing the Print Screen key. The Print Screen key is near the upper-right corner of your keyboard. (Depending on the type of keyboard you have, the exact key names on your keyboard may vary slightly.)
You can take a screen shot of your entire desktop rather than just a single window by pressing the Print Screen key without holding down the Alt key.

Hi Comet A screen capture is saved to the "clip board" i.e. you then "paste it" into your photo software. Try Gadwin Print Screen, a free program that is more versatile tham XP's basic one. You can choose exactly what part of the screen you copy and it is place into a designated folder in "My Documents". I also use KM player, which I think is the most versatile of the free media players but is a big download. This allows you to capture individual frames. Cheers Tony

Hi Paul, Well you seem to have answered your own question! I'd forgotten that you can copy any open window on the screen by ALT-Print Screen in Windows, this is handy when you work with two or more monitors at the same time as I do, though I use Print Screen all the time and then have to crop them. As Tony said, you then need to paste the copied screen shot into an image program such as the free "Paint", or any other, before saving it permanently. As for screen shots of videos, they don't always work, as it depends on your settings in the video player - sometimes you can get a black screen instead. But of course, the ubiquitous (and free) VLC Media Player allows you to play anything, freeze-frame it or play in slow motion, and copy any frame as an image file to any location you set, or to the clipboard. Cheers, Dave

Thanks Dave and Tony,
Yes Dave, I was getting the black screen, which had me baffled as Hayley was against a totally dark background,
Even though I pasted into "PAINT" I got the header bar from the screen shot, Hayley appeared to be there until I saved the file, but when I opened it again to crop it, it was just a black screen, Bah , I was stumped and frustrated.
The computer I was using has been giving trouble for months, as soon as I am linked to YouTube or any site that starts a video automatically, the computer freezes and goes into meltdown and has to be re booted, rather annoying, considering how much Hayley related material is on YouTube.. I have the reverse of your setup, Two computers using one monitor, due to space restrictions.
Tony, I may give Gadwin a bash at it.

You only need to ever tick that box again if some videos won't play properly but on a fast computer with a decent graphics card, it should be fine unticked - and you can do screen captures with print Screen. Hi Comet/Dave With VLC player a simple method of taking a screen shot is to pause the video. Then right click the screen--click "video" on the drop down menu, then click "snapshot", the image is then saved to My Pictures folder and then you can import it into your photo/imaging software to edit it as you wish. Cheers Tony

Hi Comet
I have had another thought. If you want to do a lot of snapshots/screen captures using VLC player then switch to "advanced controls" via the "view" menu. Then at the bottom left hand side of screen you have a little camera icon that you click each time you want a snapshot/screen capture. Hope that helps.
Cheers

Thanks folks, All I need now is some time to spare to "Experiment" and here I am almost three years later, I have Gadwin installed and I'm still getting "Black Boxes" instead of screen captures. Dave, maybe you can help. I am playing the video in the Canon programme Image Mixer 3 SE Player from a .MTS file. I have videos with sometimes just a few seconds of good quality on target picture, from concerts where no "on stage" pictures have ever turned up due to camera or photography bans. It would be nice to get them posted before they get lost in the digital wasteland of obsolete computers, failed hard discs and modern junk.
