Hello everyone Does anyone know where to get a copy of Music Week - I gather from Dave that it may be hard to find as it's essentially a music business magazine/paper and doesn't have a very large circulation. Can't go searching today anyway as I'll be out in the wilds of Nottinghamshire all day Best wishes Grant

Hello Grant! I'm sure I've seen Music Week in larger branches of WH Smith. Richard

Hello everyone Managed to get a copy of Music Week eventually i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif No luck in Derby but a very helpful sales assistant in W.H. Smith phoned through to the Nottingham branch for me and established that they did have it in stock. Jumped on the Red Arrow express bus and by 11.30 had my grubby little hands on a copy :rollin Not surprising it's hard to find and only has a circulation of around 5000 copies at £5.15 a pop. Anyone else interested, they still had four copies when I left. Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant, you may have yourself a little piece of music history there, as it was the final issue under its then owners, It has today been taken over by new owners to save it from closure, and they have issued the following statement: So it looks like the last throw of the dice for Music Week... and as they have had a prominent online presence too for several years now, this is not a good sign for the UK music industry as a whole. Hi Dave Hi Grant, you may have yourself a little piece of music history there, as it was the final issue under its' then owners, It has today been taken over by new owners to save it from closure, and they have issued the following statement: I have to admit to being a little confused! According to Wikipidia, Music Week was sold to Intent Media in June this year and all the contact details on the web site have been IM since I started looking when Hayley's article was previewed. OK, just had a closer look at the mag and the publisher is shown as United Business media Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant, Yes indeed, last week's had UBM plastered all over it; this week it's Intent Media. They also moved out of UBM's offices into Intent's over the weekend. Last chance saloon. Wikipedia frequently gets things slightly wrong, I find - though it's often a good starting point. Cheers, Dave

Before anyone worries too much about Hayley's possible UK sales, it may be worth pointing out that more music was sold in 2010 in the UK than ever before. When the record labels put out all those statistics, they are very careful. They talk about a catastrophic drop in CD sales - which is only natural when a large number of their customers are now online and buying digital instead of physical albums! Personally, I prefer physical media myself. But it is no longer the only way that people are buying music...

Elliott, that article is as you would expect from a Torrent supporting site, heavily spun.
The 'units' to which they refer are mostly download tracks costing less than a pound, the increase in which nowhere near replaces the income drop from reduced album sales. I'm not getting into the reasons for this, which are many and various.
Suffice it to say that anyone who can show increased album sales from a previous major release four and a half years ago is doing very well indeed so let's hope Hayley is one of them - she certainly deserves it and we at HWI will of course do everything we can to help this.

As we were talking overall legal sales rather than income, Dave, it seemed relevant.
I just ignored all the stuff about 'Pirates Are Innocent, Honest' as self-serving rubbish and concentrated on the statistics.
With everyone spinning madly, the important thing to me is that artists are supported and if Hayley is going to sell more tracks now than she would have in the past, that likely means more people wanting to see her on tour, which is where artists actually seem to make their money, these days.
