Hi Stephany! Je suis désolé que la France ne gagné pas. I'm sorry that France didn't win (Sorry proboards, I couldn't resist. ). But it's nice to be the host of such a major event like the World Championship, isn't it? So now it's up to England to win the title! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifThomas

It is definitely great to be the hosts of a World Cup. Things were crazy in Paris before I left. I'm sure you know how it is - you just need to compare it to the 2006 Football World Cup in Germany Hi Stephany, If New Zealand didn't win because Hayley wasn't singing for them, how do you expect France to win if you go swanning off to the pub for the evening? Hi Roger - actually, I think I looked very sad at the end of the match because the barman offered me another drink and I believe that I wasn't walking straight when I returned home :rollin I won't go to the pub for the final, no more alchohol for me. The match will be on a big screen in the city centre anyway. Stephany

Hi All. This was a poll forecast from a NZ newspaper which I posted quite a while back. Easy to be wise after the event isn't it? Graeme

Interesting poll, Graeme. We cannot redo history but now I really look forward to seeing the next friendly match between NZ and France. I buy a ticket immediately if it's at the Stade de France Could be a very interesting game. Stephany

Hi everyone!! I hope the English rugby team will do better than the football team who lost today to Russia (there was no penalty!! grr). Stephany Yes, maybe we should get the guys who manage the England rugby team to run the national soccer team as well ! (I think the footballers will be looking for a new manager soon.) Anyway, never mind them, it's fingers crossed for tonight. Unlike last time we played SA, we've got the "Jonny factor." So.......

I was hoping listen to the match on BBC Radio Five. But now it seems that they can't air it live, due to contractual obligations. Oh well. I'l try again in 30 minutes. Go England! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifJoe

A few tears for England ...and a big bravo to the World Champions, South Africa. There's nothing we can say, really. It was a great final but in the end they proved that they deserved to win the Cup. Stephany

Yes Stephany & they had an answer for Jonny Wilkinson!!!!I have not the remotest idea how to say "Long live South Africa" in Afrikaans or even if its still appropriate. The poll prediction in reply #183 proved deadly accurate in South Africa's case. Graeme "UPDATE 1-Rugby-World-South Africa beat England to win World Cup Sat Oct 20, 2007 9:48pm BST PARIS, Oct 20 (Reuters) - South Africa beat defending champions England 15-6 in the World Cup final at the Stade de France on Saturday to win the Webb Ellis Cup for the second time. Fullback Percy Montgomery scored the bulk of South Africa's points from penalties, landing three in the first half then another in the second term while centre Francois Steyn kicked one long-range goal after missing an earlier attempt. England's points all came from the boot of flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson, who kicked a penalty in each half but missed two shots at drop goals, although they came closest to scoring a try through winger Mark Cueto only to have it disallowed by the video referee for putting a foot into touch. The Springboks won the World Cup for the first time at home in 1995 in the only previous tryless final and Saturday's victory saw them join Australia as the only countries to win the title twice. © Reuters2007All rights reserved."

Congratulations to South Africa for winning and being the best and most consistent team throughout the tournament. Pity about the England try not given though! Martin

Actually it wasn't a try but even if they'd given it, we'd have got 7 points and were 9 behind anyway so it wouldn't have made any difference. In the end the best team won. C'est la vie !

Hi everyone, I know that the Rugby World Cup is over but...here is a picture of Hayley at the match England v New Zealand in Twickenham on November 7, 2006. I'm posting it here because all the other Rugby threads have been locked and I don't really want to open a new one just for these (gorgeous) pictures. Stephany

Hi Everyone, (Lovely pics Steph.) Even tho this event is over for a while, one of my favourite ever interview clips ever appeared just before the Rugby World Cup. Its Hayley on TV3 NZ being asked what she felt when she learned that anthem singers would not be required for the Games. Here it is & its a .wmv to keep on your PC. 18.6 Mb file size. I got worried about TV3 deleting their old clips. www.mediafire.com/?6tlyx0ozjcmOn rethinking, better to have Gerald & Jill W. giving their thoughts on the same question....also an excellent clip : 7.6 Mb .wmv www.mediafire.com/?a2m0hgq9nvy Enjoy, Graeme.
