Hi Folks,
We, who have the album before the rest of the world have a unique opportunity to perhaps identify a track or two that would best showcase Hayley's abilities to the world.
This question is not the same as what is YOUR favourite track.
If you were to play only one track from the album for a large group of people who had never heard Hayley before, which track do you think is Hayley at her most excellent / attractive sounding ?
Which track would make people stop what they are doing, put down their tools or whatever they work with and turn up the volume on their radio and go Wow !
For Radio play, imagine places like the hairdressers, restaurants, workshops, in the car, places where the radio is left playing in the background all day long.
I would imagine a lot of stations would not play a track much more than 4 minutes long, so that knocks a few of them off the list.
I think Here's to You might be a good one, It is already familiar to many people.

Hi Comet!
Excellent topic.
My mind immediately went to 'Malena'.
I agree with your choice of 'Here's To You'
I wonder if around Christmas, 'Per Natale' might be popular in France and Canada radio.
My best wishes, Joe

Lezione Di Musica without a doubt. So different and I think the song that grabbed me most on my first hearing of the album. It is also short enough to be radio friendly.
Amalia might be another good choice.

For an English speaking audience, I think 'The Edge of Love' would go down well.

Well, in my opinion it depends on the radio station... I think Gabriel's Oboe is one of the best known songs there, and as I said before, I can't imagine anyone who haven't heard Hayley before and not falling in love with her voice immediately when hearing it... It really shows the angelic voice that Hayley was called Pure for.
I agree Malena may be another very good choice. It is very, very spectacular. As for Lezione di Musica, I am not sure, Martin, as much as I love it, I think it is "too good" for the general audience: people who are not deeply into music may find it just fun, without being too impressed; it may work better on a classical music audience, but maybe too short for the typpical classical music station.
And for a more pop radio station who would not play a track like Gabriel's Oboe or Malena, the more upbeated songs like Metti Una Sera A Cena or Am**SPAM? PLEASE REPORTlia por Amor could maybe get played and De Qual Sorriso Che Non Ride Piú or The Edge of Love coould find appeal as ballads, however I am not sure pop stations would play a non-English song. Here's To You is a risky song for radio play, but, as people keep saying, it's indeed very catchy and effective, and Hey Jude was afterall one of the biggest hits in history.
For Portuguese-speaking and French-speaking audience, the choices are obvious.

I should have suggested in the starting post a method of listening.
Maybe play the cd in one room with the volume quite low and listen in a different room and see what sounds really jump out at you and grab your attention "From a Distance"

At the very least, I'm pretty sure no American stations will ever play any of them. I guess you mean classical stations then. Here's to You is a catchy song, and she sings it well, but it doesn't showcase her vocal ability that much. I don't think it would grab people's attention as much as the beautiful, exquisite songs would. Shockingly, I still haven't listened to the whole album more than once (not that I don't want to!), so some of the songs I can't say for sure whether they're radio material or not. I do think Whispers in a Dream is the most beautiful, and it has the most recognizable tune, probably.

be positive Libby, Do not underestimate the POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING. I suspect you underestimate the number of people who watch Clint Eastwood movies and who would buy new material by Ennio Morricone if they discovered it was available,Just the fact that he has personally produced Hayley's album is a massive endorsement for Hayley. What makes you think radio stations will not play tracks from this album ?. As soon as it is released in UK / Ireland we will be e-mailing stations here in Ireland, and we won't stop until they play it. I have a few radio presenters on my e-mail list who are quite partial to a track or two of Hayley's music and film soundtracks, so the combination of the two will make it all the easier for them to play Hayley's new album Paradiso

American stations have never played her songs before. Why would they do so now? I can't estimate the number of people who watch those movies, because I have absolutely no idea. I never really knew much about them before; I've never seen them, and I don't know what movies everybody in the world watches. Yes, go ahead and e-mail the stations in UK & Ireland. But there is more of a market for that music there, but not so here. I will, however, contact some TV shows for Hayley to be on. I still don't have much confidence anything will come of it, but I will most certainly try.

I was told today by a work colleague that Steve Bruce played a Hayley song on Radio 2 yesterday. He couldn't remember which it was, but said "she has a very distinctive voice", so it sound as if it might have happened.

I assume it is just an assumption by you that Hayley has not been played on ANY American radio stations, or do you have evidence that it is indeed a fact ? Pure promos were certainly sent out in the US as many members here can verify, because they turned up on E-Bay with the scary FBI warning on them. "If you copy this disc, we will send in our black ops guys and get you" Surely it would be easier to get a radio station to play a few Hayley songs than to organise to have Hayley appear on a TV show ? The more modern version of the Promo CD is the EPK (Electronic Press Kit) It can be e-mailed, so in theory videos could be played by any TV station, Hayley would not have to be present at each individual station. It would be great to see her on MTV (if that still exists). We still receive our TV signal on a coat hanger and a dustbin lid so I don't see much of that foreign stuff

Hayley has definitely been played on US radio stations, I cannot recall exactly when was the last time but in 2004 she did a "Disney Radio" tour and I used to check a US "radio plays" website at the time and "Who Painted The Moon Black?" received quite a few plays on various stations. Pokarekare Ana too, I seem to recall. But in general since then, I agree that there has not been much if any radio exposure in the US. Cheers, Dave

The only stations I know of that might play her songs are the online ones. Yahoo has a classical crossover one, and they used to play some of her songs. I haven't checked it in a long time, though. The last few times they didn't play any. Oh, and they only played Pure and Odyssey, even though Treasure was out then, too. Maybe they will play Paradiso eventually, too.
However, regular radio stations in my area wouldn't play it. I've tried before. The problem is they're all so mainstream. I've tried the more "easy-listening" type stations, I've tried Christian stations. The easy-listening are either old favorites, or current ones. Nothing really unknown. They do play Josh Groban once in a while. So, maybe I will try. But what songs should I suggest?
Also, ever since Winter Magic was released, I've been e-mailing about 3 possible stations, particularly the Christian one, since they do seem to divert from their normal artists to play more "secular" artists' versions of Christmas songs. I always mention her new songs, especially Peace Shall Come. No luck yet, but they have played Josh Groban and Charlotte Church. Even Jackie Evancho, but then she's American.
To me, a TV show is better, because you can see the person singing, and hear their name announced. They might get to talk to the host a little bit, so one can learn more about them, see what their CD is, etc. Radio stations can go for a long time without mentioning what song was just played. By that time the listener might move on to something else. Of course, if they liked it well enough, they might wait to hear who it was, or look it up. But the TV show would tell them right away.
And please don't fault me if I don't have much confidence that any station would ever play her songs. Especially since I do all kinds of other things to improve her success in this country. I can't do everything. And I can't contact every radio station in the country.

I think this thread also implies which track should be used to promote the album, in other words what should be the album signature track.
This is particularly important not only for radio play but also TV promotions where Hayley is a guest on a chat show for instance.
I wonder if Decca and Bandana have agreed on this yet? Perhaps the significance of Gabriel's Oboe being the first track on the album is that it is identified as the signature track?

Hi Martin,
Yes, that it what I was thinking. It has the advantage of being a well known tune, and is also according to our poll one of the favourites of those who know the whole album. And it certainly had instant impact the first time I heard it. So I think that Gabriel's Oboe would be a good choice, and is probably the choice that Hayley has made too to front up her promotion effort.
However, although Hayley does imitate an oboe elsewhere on the album, this is not the song where she does it!
