Neither can I. It's just what he said. It's beyond my level of understanding of production to determine how something is recorded "badly". I understand nothing of production at all, in fact. I only shared what I noticed about the vocal and music not blending, and I couldn't even articulate that with what precisely was wrong. I don't have a "technical" ear either.
Chris - your post does come across rather defensive. Keep it cool. Just people sharing opinions and what they hear. xx

pot and black spring to mind.
I haven't got my copies from Amplifier yet, Postman's donkey is probably tired.
Reasonable observations Chris,
when people mention producers, certain names pop into my head, A producer can "make" or "destroy" an album.
Phil Spector is one, and his Destruction of Leonard Cohen's album Death of a ladies' man. His (Spector) refusal to allow Cohen to re-record the vocals which had only been intended as demos on which to construct the songs in the studio.

In the end the only thinkg that matters is whether or not the technical "issues" detract from your enjoyment of the album. For me they do not. I listen primarily for the musical aspects, the gorgeous melodies, Hayley's fabulous voice, the superb orchestration. To me they are the things tht matter, and as long as there is no actual distortion (well there always is, but is it within acceptable limits) then I am happy. Improved technical quality does not necessarily equate to greater enjoyment. What matters is the performance, and on this album all of the performances are world class. Nobody is disputing that. Sometimes what might appear as technical faults can be deliberately used for artistic reasons. If you ever heard the Rolling Sones first album, you will know that he sound was actually distorted for just that reason. I had issues with some of their albums back in the 60s, and even returned some as faulty, only to discover they were all like that. Nothing so outrageous has been done here. I just find the whole experience of listing to this album stunning.

For non-NZ members: Does the Album's info appear on your PCs when you play the Paradiso CD? On mine, the CD played just fine, but none of the Album info appears. It says "Unknown Album", "Unknown Artist", and the tracks appear as "Track 01" to "Track 14" instead of the actual titles.
Does anyone else have the same problem? I'm going to bring it to work tomorrow to make sure it's not just my DVD Drive goofing up.

Well said, Martin. My only problem is that now I am on the "alert" for issues, something that might never have been the case until I read this thread. I don't have Paradiso yet and now I know I'll be hyper-sensitive to possible shortcomings when I hear it for the first time.
Many Hayley fans do indeed have superbly discerning ears, a fact which explains why they treasure a voice as exquisite as Hayley's in the first place. We want the best for her and will be irate if productions values were off in places. Experts will certainly detect the problems and that could weigh negatively when Grammy and Classical Brit selections are made.
I sure hope they tweak things to the highest standard before the album rolls out to other markets. Hayley deserves no less.

Hi everyone, I'm a little bit concerned that some of the points raised in this thread have those who haven't yet received the album worried -- your imaginations are probably running wild with thoughts of what could be 'wrong' with the production of the album. Even worse, it could be causing the excitement to be dampened slightly. Rest assured, coming from a regular old joe who is not a music expert, I have not noticed anything at all. I'm rather wondering what on earth everyone is talking about. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSo as far as I see, don't worry at all! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Hayley's vocal performance is superb and the orchestra is superb! All the people who know a lot more about music and the technical aspects can return to their conversation now. However, I just wanted to ease the minds of anyone who was getting concerned that they wouldn't enjoy the album. There's nothing to be worried about. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Cheers, Jillian

I've listened to my copy eleven times now and when these technical issues first appeared I listened for them - and I STILL don't know what they're talking about! As Dave said, the vast majority of systems won't be able to detect that the editing may be a millisecond off so don't worry about it! Best wishes Grant

Hi Dennis, As others have said, you may need to check that your player's options are set correctly (to go online to get info if music isn't initially recognised). My stand-alone Panasonic home entertainment system (which has an internet connection) did this automatically using the Gracenote music database and instantly recognised Paradiso. I was suitably impressed! Well said, Martin. My only problem is that now I am on the "alert" for issues, something that might never have been the case until I read this thread. I don't have Paradiso yet and now I know I'll be hyper-sensitive to possible shortcomings when I hear it for the first time. As Jillian has said, please don't be concerned, Steve. The technical aspects pointed out are in my opinion down to the way things are done in Italy or by Morricone himself, rather than any technical shortcomings. When you get it, just listen to it. I am fully aware of everything mentioned in this thread but after about 30 plays now, it hasn't diminished my enjoyment of the album in any way whatsoever, I love it! If anything, the technical discussion has increased my respect for Hayley's singing because on most of the tracks, it is evident that little if any artifical "tweaking" (such as autotune or excessive reverb) has been done - this is the real Hayley and not some artificially created computer voice as all too often happens with pop albums. The dynamic range limiting I mentioned earlier occurs only at the end of Here's To You (because of a massive choral/orchestral backing) and isn't obvious even if you listen for it. I find this album to be refreshingly natural and on most tracks, there is a remarkable clarity of sound. Do not be concerned, it's a great Hayley album! Cheers, Dave

Hi All, The only thing that has entered my mind to date is how did my preordered from marbecks NZ Paradiso manage to get caught in a mail jam somewhere & still be not here even tho there are 20 odd flights per day between NZ & Sydney Aus. I would imagine Anzac day & Easter w/e combined helped tho. Yet Jillian has hers ? ho hum .....sound of crickets.... Graeme

Yep ! Not having the album is definitely a technical problem that can't be overcome by adjusting the tone controls

Thank you, Jillian. I was actually starting to worry, along with the comments on some of her songs being repetitive. The same verse repeated over and over does sound a bit disappointing.
