Hi, Steven... It isn't this way. First of all, unlike other Facebook pages, on the HWI I can't find the list of people who liked it, I see only the number of people who liked it. Another thing is if you commment or like a specific publication on the wall, then your name does appear publically.
However, even if someone clicks on your name and gets to your profile, Facebook has privacy options for almost everything you may publish there. If you choose the right settings, someone who you haven't accepted as your friend, will be able to see nothing but your name and display picture.
Hope this explanation helps and makes you more confident about Facebook.
Michal

That's why some of us restrict what is publicly available. Its that balance of being open and not masquerading while at the same time protecting one's privacy. Individuals can control what people see.

Why yes, I did see a reply by you to somebody else that I'm "friends" with on FB. I think that's what it was. And that was the first time I've ever seen you on FB.

There doesn't seem to be any on line help for facebook. It is all quite confding to the newbie. I seem to have a "newsfeed" that appears when I log in, but also a "wall" that is quite hard to find, and "messages" which are yet another stream. No quite sure what the difference is and why I need all of them. It is a whole lot more complex than Twitter, and I don't feel that I know what I'm doing, who who can see what.

Martin D the newsfeed is all the stuff you subscribe too the wall is where people post non-private messages that the rest of your "freinds" can comment on... though f you post onto your wall, you can specify friends you dont want to read it. i use it if i say something i dont want mom to read there is an online help facility; under account settings [last link at the right on the top of the page] click on "help center" messages are just between you and you correspondant. if you want to know what is being seen by whom, under account settings select "privacy settings"; theres even an option to preview your page the spiderman

I can explain it to you in "Twitter terms" if that helps.
The newsfeed is like when you go to "Home" on Twitter, and you see all the recent posts by people you're following, except Facebook doesn't show them in any particular order that I've ever seen. And your wall is just where people write things directly to you, but it's still public, meaning your other friends might see it on their newsfeed.
Messages are like direct messages on Twitter, where it's just between you and the other person.
One good thing about FB is that there is no character limit; or if there is, it has a much bigger limit.

except Facebook doesn't show them in any particular order that I've ever seen. By default Facebook shows "trending" publications, and not in order. And, besides, now there was a change that makes a default setting to show only the publications by people that you have interacted recently, hiding the ones that pressumibly don't interest you. Both settings can be changed. If you want to see the posts in a chronological order, like in Twitter, above the newsfeed, there should be two options named something like "Headers" and "Most Recent", if you choose the second, the most recent publications will appear in chronological order, either they are "trending" or not. Showing publications by all your friends and subscriptions instead of only the ones you recently interact with is a little more hidden option. You have to scroll down to the end of the newsfeed and click on "Edit Options", which is situated next to "Previous publications". There you change the setting so it shows "All friends and pages". You can also hide specific pages and friends there. Michal

Thanks, Michal. I did actually switch to the All Friends and Pages thing not too long ago... I haven't really noticed much difference, though... maybe a little.

This is all much too complicated. But I don't think Hayley herself has got to grips with it eaither, I suspect what appears on her facebook page is from her management.
For me, the plus point is that several members of my family use it. So I can see what they are getting up to!
Twitter though, is definitely Hayley, and she has got to grips with it well. But it does seem very much simpler.

I suspect what appears on her facebook page is from her management. Yes, it's from her management, but they're not posting her tweets manually. If you look below her posts on FB, it'll say "RSS Graffiti". The RSS Graffiti page says that it "periodically checks the RSS/Atom feeds that you specify and posts any new entries it finds to the Facebook Walls that you specify." And also it says that it was written for FB page administrators. So Hayley's page must be managed by a page administrator. www.facebook.com/RSS.GraffitiBut I've noticed that this feed does not "find" all of Hayley's tweets. Especially recently, when she's been posting several tweets in a day, the feed only shows a couple of them. It seemed like at first it was showing all her tweets everyday, but not anymore.

Hi Libby,
I thought that the choice of tweets that appears seems to intelligent for an automatic system. Perhaps somebody is removing the ones that are not newsworthy.

Possible. I could see why they might not post about her suitcases not unpacking themselves. But do they not think her arriving back in London is newsworthy at all? Because none of her tweets from today are there. So I guess that could prove that somebody is behind on things. But the RSS feed is there, and I thought "feeds" were automatic. Not that I'm an expert on things like that. I guess if anyone wants to see everything she says, they'll just have to go to Twitter.
