You're very welcome, Meagan, but it was Dave who did all the clever stuff. I was merely the messenger! I know my place! Jon, I am sure you will find tracks on the album that suit your tastes better. Roger

Hi Tim,
No, we don;t know the date and, as it is not likely to be a public event, it is not likely to be announced. Unless you're invited, of course!
I have asked about the concert on 20th March but astill awaiting confirmation. Provided Steve is at Hayley's concert on Saturday, I will ask him then.
Roger

Thank you HWI for making this Hayley appearance on GMTV available!
I thought her performance of Santa Lucia was exquisite ... so exquisite that I wondered if she was singing live or if it was mimed. I mean this as a sincere compliment because it sounded so good, and the backing music seemed more layered than what the players on hand could naturally create. Hayley's voice seemed uncannily faithful to the recorded track with no discernable variations in tone, breathing or length of note-holding. It's very much to her credit if she can reproduce the absolute perfection of the studio version in a live TV broadcast, and apparently, this is precisely what she did.

Hi Steve,
In view of your comments, I have watched the video again (thanks for the excuse!). We only saw two musicians in the studio (guitar and harp) but we definitely heard a mandolin so there was, indeed, some additional backing. However, I believe I detected the most subtle variations in the vocal on a two occasions between this version and that which appers on the album. I am therefore quietly confident that Hayley really was singing live.

Hi Roger, thanks very much for the video clip and thanks Dave. Where would we be without you guy's eh? In answer to everyone's query Roger,if you get a chance on Sat,ask Hayley was it a “Live” performence that she did on GMTV. I recon it was,but if it wasn't it didn't really matter, the performence was excellent.............Well done Hayley i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifRodders CH CH NZ

Hi Steve, Roger and Rodders, Prior to Steve's comment, I had no doubts whatsoever that this was a "live" performance by Hayley - and the programme presenters said it would be "live" when previewing it earlier in the show (I've just checked my recording). They also said they'd enjoyed listening to her rehearsals. I had also assumed that the studio musicians were playing "live" as well but i hadn't considered Roger's point about the mandolin! Well I've now studied my original recording (which is of higher resolution that the published one) and I can see no evidence of the studio musicians or their instruments being 'miked' up. This doesn't prove they weren't - but taken together with the mandolin thing, I'd now guess that they were playing "live" but the actual backing sounds we heard were from a pre-recorded backing track... or partially so (e.g. the mandolin). However, I've also studied Hayley's lip movements in relation to the the sounds we heard and they are 100% accurate throughout - to the point of perfection - this in spite of the camera being on her face for 90% of the performance, often in extreme close-up - and the lyrics being sung in Italian. Also, her facial expression throughout is entirely consistent with her having put considerable effort into this performance. I have also analysed the audio waveform of this performance in order to compare it with the waveform of the CD recording. The audio dynamics are visibly completely different! For example, on certain notes and sequences, the audio balance between Hayley and the backing is temporarily completely different from the CD track. There are many other differences too. A good example is the three second sequence starting 9 seconds after Hayley sings her first note, at 1m 54s to 1m 57s into the video. She sings: "Pros-pero e` il vento". In the TV appearance "vento" (sounds like "vairto") is emphasised but in the studio recording it is sung quietly with no emphasis. This sort of audio pattern is absolutely typical of "live" performances and in this case, the difference is clearly audible. Therefore, I say with total confidence that Hayley herself was definitely singing "live" and what we heard was what she sang "live" at the time. Not many singers can do this! Cheers, Dave
