I can't possibly be the only Doctor Who fan on here! So what did you all think of Katherine in the Christmas special? Must admit, I thought she was really good!

Somebody asked me “What did you think of Katherine’s acting?”
My reply – “I didn’t think she needed to act. She just played herself.”
Katherine’s image seems to be getting pulled in all sorts of directions these days. I can’t say that I care much for all the glamour shots, but this showed a side to Katherine which I really liked.

Same. I thought she came off really well. I like that they cast her as more than just a gimmick, too, making her singing a real part of the story.

Haven't watched it yet as I have to admit, as a Doctor Who fan, I assumed that her involvement was a ginmmick and it put me off watching it on the day (I hate nearly all programmes that bring in celebs from other fields of entertainment, whoever they are). What other acting has she done previously? And if she was in it for her acting, why have her singing? Just wondering, as singing (any singing, by anyone) in Dr Who just *sounds like* a gimmick. But I do have it recorded and when I'm in the mood, I'll watch it. Dave

I only watched Doctor Who with David Tennent. It's poor of me, but I haven't given the new Doctor Who a chance. Katherine being cast put me off watching it aswell, but I succumbed and watched some clips on Youtube yesterday. She was actually very classy, and the music she sang was top notch. In all, it wasn't tacky, gimmicky, or anything of the sort. I was impressed with it. Would like to buy the song somewhere...
P.S. She's done no acting of any sort before. This was her first ever role. She would have got some skills from her degree, music videos and stage shows. Would be interesting to watch her play a role a bit out of the box that doesn't suit her image, but I don't think she's interested in acting that much.

Dave, I can honestly say, as a huge fan of Doctor Who, that it didn't come across as being at all gimmicky, but actually flows very naturally out of the story. Which is truly fantastic, BTW. It's my favourite Xmas special so far, and a fitting end to one of the best series of the new era. *** Nicola, Tennant was 'your' Doctor, at a guess I think every Who fan gets that. We get one Doctor above all who we really click with and somehow, no-one can live up to that guy, whoever he may be. For me, it's Tom Baker and I doubt that will ever change. But that doesn't mean we can't appreciate other Doctors. it's really not a betrayal! I thought Tennant was terrific and would be very hard to replace... But, having given Matt Smith a chance, I can honestly say they've pulled it off. Smith is not Tennant, but he's great in his own way, as all the best Doctors are.

Ah yes, Tom Baker, I remember him..
As someone who rarely watches TV, and even more rarely anything fictional, I have to confess I missed it. If I had known Katherine would be singing though, I might have watched it for that.

Nic, with all your endeavors how do you find time to watch T V? Larry

Well, here they had been airing some seasons of Doctor Who (the new ones) in the catalan TV... And I must admit I got hooked some years ago, I usually dislike science fiction movies involving creatures from other worlds (with the exception of Star Wars), and at first sight, Doctor Who gave me a negative feeling, but after a couple of episodes, I ended up liking it and getting hooked...
I am very surprised of Katherine Jenkins being included on an episode, and even more that she made a decent role, it's not someone I would expect on Doctor Who... On her acting skills and the question if she have ever acted... well, I know she is so, so far away from that now... but didn't she start performing in operas? Or she never get to do that?

Hey Michal,
Katherine has never performed in an opera, but she would have been briefly trained during her degree.
