Duet ?

I saw the videos of Hayley in Taiwan, and the one with Shin really impressed me. She is a true talent. Lately I saw some videos from a Tibetan girl, right around Hayley's age. Her name is Alan Dawa Dolma and she now works out of Tokyo, Japan for Avex Group (she won a talent search and moved to Japan). I think she and Hayley would sound amazing together. The power is similar but different, both incredibly clear, but ...well you decide for yourselves, lol. I just can't explain it, I just think they would sound awesome together and with Hayley singing Mandarin, as well as english, it would be a smash hit. I'm thinking about dropping a line to Hayley's label about it. I can't help but think those 2 would rule the Asian market for many years to come. Cheers, and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone out there. Best to all in 2011. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fej8kGWGB9swww.youtube.com/watch?v=o_bQD8ZjgDk

Sorry, there's something I should add. I realize many will watch a few songs from the above links and poopoo the idea mostly because of the pop stlye Alan sings in at least half of those videos (that's because she went to Avex Group, her true talents lie in her 'tibetan wail' she is known for). I was only talking about her voice (if you watch the videos where she is given a bit of latitude by her label to sing more of the style from her homeland, you can really hear the power in her voice, albeit not as high as Hayley's), obviously any colaboration would have to involve a 'middle ground' as far as between pop and classical. Look at the bigger picture and the markets we're talking about here. I think it was on this site I read how Hayley's internet hits went up quite significantly after her show at the World Games last year. Those hits mostly came from Asia. Hayley is already a hit in Japan, now in China. It makes perfect sense. Just something to think about. Take care.

Personal tastes aside, her musical style is vastly different from Hayley's.
I can't understand why you'd like to see them sing together...

Hi Dennis, As I said earlier, this idea will likely not appeal to everyone, but in the case of a duet, any duet, sometimes it pays to check conventional wisdom at the door. Alan is a very versatile singer who sings in Mandarin Chinese and Japanese,, and noone will deny she can sing. (well they can, but they'd be wrong ). Avex Trax has her doing a lot of pop music, but her real talents lie with her 'Tibetan Wail'. Combined with Hayley's amazing classical voice, and the right song, it might just be a winner. On the flip side, Hayley has done some pop, and has some experience in Mandarin and Japanese. And they have both recorded 'Nada Soso', Alan in Chinese (and Japanese), and Hayley in English, why not together ? If you recall, I mentioned a 'middle ground, so obviously a compromise in musical style would likely be in order.. But whatever, many people loved Bryan Adams and Luciano Pavarotti together.(I assume you weren't one of them ) www.youtube.com/watch?v=5a0juQ0aeGIThat is a way more extreme variation in musical style than what I propose. And what about Andrea Bocelli and Christina Aguillera ? I imagine the person who suggested that duet got laughed out of the room... Wrong. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMav2C1maMoMy feeling is that Hayley has the finest female classical voice there is, and maybe some people would have Hayley singing classical and little else. And that's fine for them.. But not for me.(and others I'm sure).. Some of us would love to see her branch out a bit more and add some different musical styles and collaborations to her resume. What I'm talking about is not a huge stretch. although I'm pretty sure with the right song Hayley could make any duet sound great. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif . I, for one, think it would be awesome. Take care.

Actually, I'd like to see her do more folk songs - she is brilliant at that and it is a genre, unlike pop, where the voice matters.
What I'm sure about, and what I hope she never does, is anything ugly, bitter or tacky. Too many singers think thay have to do that stuff to appeal to the masses. Ms Aguillera is one such, and to be honest I can't stand her. Perhaps they are right, you have to be tacky to be hugely successful, but I would like to think that Hayley regards that as a price that isn't worth paying.
Actually, there is a lot of pretty unpleasant stuff in the folk music repertoire too, that I wouldn't like Hayley to do. She has to choose carefully.
But so far for me she has never put a foot wrong.

As this thread has turned into a discussion about Hayley, I'm moving it to the Miscellaneous board. The Other Music board is now inappropriate. Richard

Did you ever get an idea that you were sure was so great, it just couldn't fail, but you were the only one who got it ? That's kind of the way I feel right now. My main concern when starting this thread was that I knew I was sticking my neck out way too far for my own comfort. Musical taste is such a personal thing and what one person loves, someone else will love less. (or even dislike immensely). I knew some people would dislike even the thought of Hayley singing a duet, let alone with someone who sings other than classical. However, sometimes you have to take a few chances to find the rewards. Take the Shin duet for example. Singing in a foreign language with a Taiwanese 'rock star' in front of 100,000 plus, on his home turf. And he was nervous ?. Are you kidding me? I don't think some people realize how incredibly difficult it would have been for Hayley to make that decision. That's just the kind of person she is. She took a risk most artists would never take, because it was something she believed in, and pulled it off in amazing fashion. And it has payed huge dividends judging by the increase in interest for Hayley since the Games, especially from Asia, where a duet with an artist of Alan''s caliber will be sure to increase that interest, and that is a win win for Hayley and everyone else involved (inclluding her fans). I have given my thoughts on this possible duet. I'm only asking people to keep an open mind. Alan does a lot of 'pop' songs, but also material not all that different from Hayley's style. I think if you dig deeper you will see what I mean. If I see any other artists that I feel Hayley could or should duet with, I will post the video links on this thread, to see what you all think. It's fun, and it gets people imagining the possibilities for Hayley as an artist. I started with Asia, because of the obvious interest in strengthening her fan base there. I have sent off an email regarding my duet with Alan idea to Decca Records, so that topic, for me, is closed (for now ). Take care. P.S. I agree with you Martin, It would devastate me to see Hayley choose something 'ugly, bitter, or tacky'. But judging by what we've seen so far, I don't think we need to worry about that at all.
