A little while ago I did a bit of research, and put together a home made CD of as many of the original songs by the original artists as I could find that are on Hayley sings Japanese Songs 2.
The subject of original Japanese artists for the HSJS albums was raised in another thread, and this had lead me to revisit that research, and attempt to find recordings of those artists on YouTube ansd elsewhere. Over the next few days I will progressively post the results of that.

Hi Martin, This thread is awesome, and I know there will be a lot of people thankful you started it. They will now have one place to go to see the videos from the original artists behind HSJS2. Will HSJS be included in this thread ? Just wondering.  Thanks again. |

Hi Canuck, Well, I haven't done the research for HSJS, but I'm temepted to do so. But I'll post what I have on HSJS2 first. It's time I went to bed. But got to do something, so here is the next one.

I've seen Ayaka's video for I Believe. And I've seen a Japanese skater, Miki Ando, performing to both of these songs by Ayaka. Ayaka even sang live for Miki when she won the World Championships in 2007. Now I just see a "fake" video of her skating to the song, set to Hayley's version. But since the song continues on long after she finishes skating, it's obvious that Miki was not really skating to Hayley. There are several of these "fake" skating to Hayley songs videos by the same person.

Sorry Martin D, but I believe the latest video you posted is an infringement of copyright, so I've removed the link. The soundtrack appears to have been taken directly from a commercially available recording. Please make sure the videos you find follow our copyright guidelines before you post the links. Yoshida Miwa is a great artist in Japan who formed a duo called Dreams Come True, which the Japanese shorten to doreeKahmu.
THis is one of her many great songs and its called simply Love Love Love.
Versions of it are available on YouTube in both English and Japanese, so Hayley didn't write or translate the lyrics for this one. Not sure where those videos came from, so better not give you the link. but it isnt hard to find.
This song is a bit like the Beatles "Hey Jude". The fade out is longer than the actual song. But what a fade out! fabulous vocalisations by Hayley. I never did find our what makes the metallic screeching sound 4 min 11 sec into Hayley's recording.

Next - Cosmos recorded in the 1970s by Masashi Sada. I have some information about Masashi Sada from Wikipedia "Masashi Sada (さだ まさし, Sada Masashi?, born April 10, 1952) is a Japanese singer, lyricist, composer, novelist, actor, and a film producer. Sada formed the folk duo Grape with Masami Yoshida in 1972, and made debut as a recording artist a year after. The pair rose to fame owing to a hit of a song "Shourou Nagashi" (精霊流し) composed by Sada, which peaked at the number-two on the Japanese Oricon chart in 1974. They broke up in 1976, after producing some hit singles including "En-kiri Dera" (縁切寺) and "Muen Zaka" (無縁坂) subsequently. Sada released the first solo album entitled Kikyorai shortly after the Grape's dissolution. Following the commercial success of the number-one hit single "Amayadori" (雨やどり, Shelter from the rain) in 1977, he enjoyed the recording career as one of the most popular Japanese male artists during the late 1970s and the first half of 1980s. Throughout his career as a musician, Sada released over 35 solo albums and 70 singles, and multiple live albums or compilations. Since the release of Shourou Nagashi published in 2001, Sada has also worked as a novelist." No mentions of Cosmos amoung his discography, and judging by the number of hits on the YouTube videos it was not his most popular song. Surprising really. Happy New Year ll. This one is rather nice! Warabigami (A Child God) by Misaka Koja (or Koja Misako) from Okinawa. Track 8 is "Mother of Mine" one that I have not had much success with finding anyway. But in any case, it isn't a Japanese song, and was originally in English. Hayley sticks to the original English lyrics. It was originally a hitfor a young boy called Niel Reid after he performed it on a TV talent show in the UK called Opportunity Knocks. Much more interesting is track 9 Itsumo Nando Demo, by Yumi Kimura. www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUNlxL8Rnlo&feature=relatedAs you see, she plays the lyre as well as sings. The title of the songs has a number of translations. It has been called "Many Times Always", "Always with me", "Always Numerous Times". I found an English translation of the lyrics, which is quite a bit different to Hayley's version, although you can see the resemblance too in parts. I think I prefer Hayley's translation.
