First of all, well done Dave for sussing this out. I paid the full Japanese price for Hayley's Japanese albums, and what is more I consider them WORTH EVERY PENNY.
If you can get them cheaper, good luck to you, but ONLY IF THEY ARE LEGITIMATE. The people who made such great albums that have given me a lot of pleasure deserve their just reward.
To me, those who try to rip off the artists and others who have put effort into making an album are comtemptable.
As for only wanting one song, there are legitimate download sites that allow you to purchase single tracks from an album. If you don't want the full album, that is worth exploring.
As for videos on YouTube and other sites, whatever you think all of them have a copyright holder. In many cases, the copyright holder is quite happy for you to download and use their material for non-commercial purposes. And TV broadcasts are I believe deemed to be in the public domain anyway.
Where there is a problem is if someone makes material available without the copyright holder's permission. There are many examples of this on YouTube, and I'm sure many people are not aware of whether or not the material they are viewing is made available with the knowledge and agreement of the copyright holder. It is a minefield!
HWI has the policy of refusing to link to or include such material, and I fully support that. I think we all should do that.
I'm sure sites like YouTube make some sort of attempt to combat this, I have had videos for which I am sure the copyright is mine flagged up as possible copyright violations. But to be fair, it must be very difficult for them. There are many items on YouTube that include material taken from Hayley's albums and videos for example. If you know them you might recognise that. If you don't you won't, and I'm sure Youtube dosn't have the same awareness of the sources of Hayley's music as HWI.
