I have the original cast recording of Cats, but I don't like it anywhere near as much as the recording of the DVD version - but they never released a CD of that version.
So, I would like to rip from my DVD to make MP3 tracks.
I haven't the first clue how to do this.
The DVD is from 2002 and is region 2.
I hope this is legal, as I have bought both the DVD and CD and just want to listen to it on my MP3 player.
xx

Hi Nicola,
Yes, it is perfectly legal, provided that it is oe for your own personal use only, and is taken from commericial material that you have legitimately purchased.
There are lots of apps available that do what you want. itunes, windows media player, realplayer etc. With WMP you can create a music lbrary, the export to your media of choice. That is the wau I dio it, and am adding to my library all the time, from purchased CDs, ecen recoring my own collecion of vinyl LPs. There is a bit of a learning curve with these apps that might seem daunting at first, but bite the bullet, expreiment a bit to get to grips with it and you will wonder why it was ever a problem
If you have any specific questions I will try to answer them, but tI'm sure there are others here that would do thesame.

Martin, I can't see anything on WMP or iTunes that lets me rip the DVD. Hi Nicola, Sorry, for some reason I read that as ripping from CD. The answer I have though, I have just tried it out and ripped an MP3 from Hayley's Live in NZ DVD, so I know it works. It is a bit technical, but here goes. I'll try to talk you through it. First of all you need to install an app called Super. It will convert just about any video or audio format into any other. It is available as a free download from download.cnet.com/Super-Video-Converter/3000-2194_4-10277613.htmlOnce you have installed it, try not to be daunted by the complicated looking main page. It isn't that difficult really. Although it stopped me in my tracks at first. To convert to mp3, select output container mp3(audio only) and tick "Disable Video". In the audio section select 44100 sampling frequency, 2 channels and a decent bitrate, say 128 kbps, the higher, the better the sound quality but the bigger the file. Put your DVD in the drive and open in "My Computer". Drag the .vob files from the window that opens into the space at the bottom of the super window. Click on the box to the left of each filename that appears in the window, so that a tick appears. Right click anywhere on the super window and select "Specify Output Folder Destination", and browse to where you want your files to be put. Once all this is set up, click "encode" in the super window. It can take several minutes, depending on how many files you are converting and how big they are, but you should eventually see a green progress bar above the part of the window with the list of files you are converting. Once this is complete, job done. Good luck. Super is a very useful program, I have used it for all sorts of different things. But it has a steep learning curve for the uninitiated. Hope this helps Martin
