Andrew, if you fancy buying a present for Hayley, pop across to Glasgow, just in time for Christmas.
Celebrity jewellery exhibition
30 August 2006
High-couture jewellery designer, Michelle Ong, has chosen Glasgow in Scotland for the first ever exhibition of 100 of her creations - among them four that she designed specially for the hit movie, The Da Vinci Code.
Ong’s exquisitely designed pieces incorporating exceptional gem stones, are viewed as individual works of art, so where better to display them than the world-renowned Burrell Collection with its 8,000 objets d’arte that were once the personal collection of Glasgow shipping magnate, Sir William Burrell (1861 – 1958).
The exhibition will highlight common themes running through the Hong Kong based designer’s work including the fusion of East and West and the combination of traditional and contemporary materials and motifs. Sourcing rare gem stones is also a particular passion.
Ong, who designs for her own company, Carnet, has been called “one of the greatest designers of our time” by international jewellery critic Ryo Yamaguchi, and the exhibition presents both new creations and loans from her illustrious clientele.
Celebrities who have worn Carnet include Kate Winslet, Teri Hatcher, Mischa Barton, Glenn Close, the opera singer, Hayley Westenra, and supermodel Rebecca Romijn-Stamos.
Michelle Ong said, “Carnet is extremely pleased to be launching its first exhibition showcasing its artistry in jewellery design as part of a season of stylish events taking place in Glasgow. With the city’s reputation for style and the prominence of the Burrell Collection, we believe the exhibition will be a fantastic success.”
