I have heard an announcement that Hayley will appear on BBC1 Songs of Praise with Katherine Jenkins and Aled Jones at 5-30 pm on Sunday 16th September.

As the 2007 World Cup continues Aled Jones visits the spiritual home of Rugby and meets some of its stars including Gareth Edwards voted the game's greatest player , England's most capped player and World Cup winner Jason Leonard and Scottish international, Euan Murray who explains how rediscovering his faith has helped him both on and off the field and Lesley Garrett, Heather Small, and Hayley Westenra join Aled at Rugby School, the birthplace of the game, to perform some inspirational classics

At 19, Gareth Edwards represented Wales for the first time. The following season he was the youngest player ever to captain the side. Credited with scoring the best ever try, Gareth discusses the impact of Welsh supporters singing hymns in the stadium and how faith is an integral part of the game.

Hayley Westenra
As music mascot for the New Zealand All Blacks, hotly tipped to win the World Cup in 2007, Hayley discusses the Haka and how music plays a part in New Zealand Rugby.

Jason Leonard OBE
With a career that spanned 2 decades and saw the switch for amateur to professionalism, Jason Leonard was capped 114 times for England. Jason was also an influential member of the 2003 World Cup winning team and discusses the impact of hymn singing on the players. Now retired from the game, Jason has returned to his professional roots in construction. However he maintains strong links with rugby, sitting on the Rugby Football Union Council and as Honorary President (Essex) for the charity Wooden Spoon. As a charity firmly established in the home nations, Wooden Spoon has committed to over £13 million in spending to projects for children and young people.

David Chawner Rugby Coordinator for SCORE Chaplaincy
As chaplain to London Wasps for over 6 seasons, David Chawner has seen the positive impact of his work. Now as Rugby Coordinator for SCORE Chaplaincy, David is working to place chaplains in all rugby clubs and to support those already in place. SCORE also place chaplains in a wide range of other sporting organisations.

Euan Murray
In 2005 Euan Murray suffered a concussion whilst playing for Glasgow Warriors against Munster. As a result, Euan began to re-examine his life and turned once again to his faith. This year Euan will join his Scotland team mates as they take part in the 2007 World Cup. Winning his first international cap against Romania in 2005, Euan will this week prepare to meet The Oaks again at Murrayfield on 18/09/07

BBC Songs of Praise are due to be recording the School Choir in Chapel on Friday 18 May. Aled Jones and Hayley Westenra are currently scheduled to record here in June. The programme will be broadcast on 16 September during the Rugby World Cup.

Songs of Praise must be one of the longest running television programmes ever. I remember seeing it when I was very young and we won;t go into how long ago that was! It is broadcast on BBC1.

Oh dear, I've certainly missed a trick here. Hayley making a recording less than a mile from where I work, and I didn't even know! What's more, it was the only time this year that she has performed within striking distance of here (ie about 60 miles). Grr.. I shall certainly enjoy watching that anyway.

Hi All!

I've just finished watching a very rousing Songs of Praise featuring our beloved Hayley.

She appeared quite early on; first in the courtyard talking to Aled about the Haka. For this part Hayley was in jeans with her All Blacks top (naturally) and a very long scarf just draped round her neck. Laughing quite a lot, especially when Aled suggested that Wales should win the rugby. Sorry Graeme, there wasn't a no-no-no-no! from Hayley this time.

Her performance of "Abide With Me" was stunning. Wearing the same black dress with the sparkley trim that she wore at Telford last December, she began singing out of sight, entering the school chapel with that amazing walk where she crosses one leg in front of the other (like on the Celtic Woman DVD).

For most of the song she just stood, relying on hand movements for emphasis and, as usual, she looked absolutely beautiful.
