HWI seems to have a modest group of U.S. members spread out across the country. With the CW tour about to begin, everyone should be encouraged to contact their local media, both print and broadcast, and needle them for a bit of coverage when CW and Hayley come to town, particularly with Celtic Treasure’s imminent release.
In the largest markets with major press outlets this may not be necessary. But even there, smaller media may not be aware. I’ve already made headway in LA with two community papers and a radio station. It may take some persuasive powers, but at the end of the day the media want to know what interests their audience .
Rally up your friends and relatives to make a lot of noise and launch the Hayley/CW juggernaut.
I should add that this post is primarily directed at lurkers (as I was for a month) and infrequent posters, since HWI veterans are no doubt way ahead of the curve on this one.

I think that's a wonderful suggestion, socalboy. We have a public radio station here in Kansas City that plays a variety of world music. I'll look into making them aware of Hayley's albums if they're not already. There's nothing better than a grassroots campaign to get the word-of-mouth going. My only dilemma is: What if we make Hayley so popular it becomes nearly impossible to get tickets to her shows?

Well Steve if you manage to do that you will have the satisfaction of helping Hayley to "take off" in the States and for that she will be for ever grateful. What more could you want? Oh yes, free tickets to her shows! Go for it socalboy, Steve and all Hayley's US fans!!! Cheers, Dave

Success! I was able to get Hayley a link on one of the most acclaimed blogs on the net, the amazing grow-a-brain! See the blog's March 12 "Music from NZ" stuff.

Kudos Steve. I've visited that site before and it's a lot of fun. This is exactly the kind of thing that can have a real cumulative effect if everyone makes a bit of an effort. We know Hayley's worth it. And if she becomes too popular, well then I think a command performance for her most worthy foot soldiers is in order.

I saw an encouraging sign. I was just at the local Borders, and they have a good sized display set up to promote Hayley's new CD!!!!

CW or no CW, I've been introducing people in the Tacoma area to Hayley's talent for the past three years. Initially I'd say that her voice was "just a bit better than Charlotte Church's" in order to interest the person into listening. Then I'd have them listen to my earphones on my Walkman CD player. Invariably they'd come back with something akin to "she's a whole lot better than Charlotte." Not too bad a ploy in the beginning. Now people are constantly asking me about new and pending new releases. I know it's not as effective as mass media, but word of mouth works well too.

Hi Ed,
Word of mouth is definitely an effective tool. If everyone did the same, and the people who then discovered her as a result did likewise, she could increase her fanbase many time over.
You are doing a grand job!
